- 2001: Westlife had announced that their third album, A World Of Our Own, would
mark something of a departure for them as they eschewed their staple fodder of
endless ballads, mixing things up a bit with up-tempo numbers. It could have gone
all Spice Girls on them, but fortunately they've stayed true to their pop roots,
and yes, amongst the ballads are some great pop stompers, but they all seem to
fit nicely into the "steady" Westlife mold. Comic Relief single "Uptown
Girl" makes a welcome appearance, as does the pop perfection of European
smash "When You're Looking Like That", which radically reworks a ballad
from their previous album Coast To Coast into something that Roxette would have
been proud of 10 years ago. The vocals throughout are far more prominent and confident
than on their previous outings, no doubt as a result of the extensive tour that
they undertook between recording this album and its predecessor. And, as they
continue to rewrite the record books with every record they release, Westlife
really do seem to be in a class and world of their own.

- 2001: The hottest boy band around, Westlife - Nicky, Bryan, Shane, Mark and
Kian - have broken records as well as hearts since they burst onto the scene back
in 1999. Their distinct vocals are what trademark their songs, and with 'World
Of Our Own' they've made their best album yet. Over its nineteen tracks it features
a selection of quality ballads such as 'Evergreen', 'I Want To Grow Old With You',
'For All Time', 'To Be Loved By You' and 'I Cry' and more up-tempo pop-rock tracks
such as the fantastic title track, 'World Of Our Own', the already international
smash 'When You're Looking Like That' and 'Bop Bop Baby'. The album also includes
'Uptown Girl', a stunning rendition of Sarah McLachlan's 'Angel' and of course
the amazing new single 'Queen Of My Heart'. Westlife have taken a greater share
of the writing duties on 'World Of Our Own' and have written 'I Wanna Grow Old
With You' and 'Imaginary Diva'. Their co-writes include 'Bop Bop Baby', 'When
You Come Around', 'Don't Say It's Too Late', 'Don't Let Me Go' and 'Love Crime'.
The elite production teams include Steve Mac and Wayne Hector, A-side, Steve Kipner
and Andrew Frampton, Magnusson and Kreuger, Biff and Quiz.
