THE LOVE TOUR NEWS 2007

Fans’ Favourites Westlife And Ash Roll In – 15 April 2007

BELFAST was rocking last night after heavyweight bands Ash and Westlife rolled into town.

Fans of Downpatrick rockers Ash who were fortunate enough to grab tickets for their exclusive Stiff Kitten gig witnessed an intimate and spellbinding performance.

The gig showcased old material and new, including the band's forthcoming single, You Can't Have It All, due for release on April 16.

Last night's show was also recorded exclusively for BBC Radio One's Rory McConnell Show and Across the Line.

Meanwhile, Irish boy band Westlife wowed crowds at the Odyssey - their second-favourite venue after the Point in Dublin - for the first of four shows.

The Dublin/Sligo group - Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan - are still going strong nearly nine years - as screaming ladies testified last night.

Formed by Svengali manager Louis Walsh as heirs apparent to Boyzone, the foursome debuted with the chart-topping Swear It Again in 1999 - and there was no looking back.

They remain the only group to hit the UK Number One spot with their first seven singles - including If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings and Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now).

Moreover, in 2007 Westlife have been awarded the Best Irish Pop Act for the consecutive seventh year.

Their UK album sales alone are almost 10 million and are expected to easily overtake that mark before the year's end.

Banned – 14 April 2007

Westlife's management have slapped a ban on the Evening Express-leaving the paper and fans in the dark.

Band bosses refused to allow media photographers into the concert unless they signed a legal document banning the use of photos in certain circumstances.

Outside management, who manage supergroup Westlife wanted us to agree to use the photographs only once in the paper and not put them on thisisaberdeen.co.uk or pass them onto fans.

So today 4,500 fans face disappointment at not being able to see pictures of the spectacular show, or support act The McDonald Brothers.

Photographers refused to be bullied into signing the restrictive document and so we were not allowed in.

As a result today we have no pictures of Westlife, the McDonald Brothers or any fans.

Evening Express editor Damian Bates said "It’s appaling that the management of bands like Westlife deny their fans the chance to enjoy photos in the Evening Express of what was a great night. Its an absolute disgrace to try to bully us into signing legal documents that ban us from using our own photos where and when we want".

Those lucky enough to get tickets for the show however were not left disappointed. And how can you go wrong with four handsome lads, 5 costumes changes and more than a dozen hit songs?

Nicky, Shane, Kian and Mark looked relaxed, refreshed and bursting with energy as they chatted, sang and danced their way through the 75 minute show.

They sang a mixture of big ballads and romantic songs such as Mandy, If I Let You Go and Coast To Coast.

Those of you lucky enough to have a ticket for tonight are in for a treat.

Westlife Feel The Love In Aberdeen – 6 April 2007

Irish sensations Westlife are returning next year to Aberdeen, following the success of their 2006 tour, to perform at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre’s (AECC’s) Press & Journal Arena on Tuesday, 10 April 2007 as part of their ‘The Love Tour 2007’.

“It is great is welcome back the band yet again to the AECC, where earlier this year they played two sell-out gigs as part of their ‘Face to Face 06’ Tour”, says Clarke Milloy, Managing Director, AECC. “We expect demand for tickets to be high due to the popularity of Westlife in the North East, and if their past Aberdeen concerts are anything to go by they will be memorable affairs”.

The band will be performing tracks from their forthcoming brand new album ‘The Love Album’, due to be released this November, as well as all the hits and favourites from over the years. Westlife are a total cultural phenomenon and after 8 years they are still at the top of their game. Last years album ‘Face to Face’ sold 1.1 million copies in just 3 months after its release in October, and was the biggest selling album for their record label last year.

Westlife have now performed a staggering 384 shows together since 2001 and over the years have gained countless brilliant live reviews. Their ‘Face to Face 06’ Tour was their freshest and most exciting ever, and saw the band make history as they became the first band to take to the stage of the Wembley Arena for the 21st time, the most times 1 pop act has performed there in the venues history. After performing to millions of fans on 6 sell-out arena tours, they have become the biggest selling arena tour act ever. Add to this, winning the prestigious Record of the Year 4 times; 35 million global record sales; 7 multi-platinum albums in the UK, and numerous other awards, Westlife are presently the biggest vocal band in the world.

Support Act For Westlife Tour - 19 March 2007

Boy band Billiam – who staged a fund-raising show at Blackpool Opera House last year – are riding the crest of a wave having landed the official support slot on Westlife's current nationwide tour.

Billiam – made up of Gee, Jordan, Jazz and Stephen – are a band that are trying to change the face of pop with its mixture of vocal ability, tight dance routines and good looks hopefully filling a gap in the market.

Billiam were formed after a nationwide search to try to find the boy band of 2007. All four lads have wanted to be in the music industry since they were kids, and they cite their recent influences as people like Take That , Elton John, Wham, and Lee Ryan.

Stirling-born Gee is the baby of the group, at just 20. Other than succeeding in music, his main ambition is to buy a giraffe. Wristband obsessed Stephen is the self confessed cheesey pop addict of the band – admitting to owning the Fast Food Rockers album among others.

Jazz is from Birmingham, and his music taste is spread wide, from r&b by Jagged Edge and Aaliyah, to funky house, speed garage and pop.

Which just leaves Jordan who is the quietest member of the group. Hailing from Leeds, he is a keen football fan and is full of useful trivia.

Billiam have been recording, and gigging for several months, and have so far worked with producers such as Steve Evens, Jamie Cullum, and Flashpoint UK. Their sound is pure pop - their most popular track, Beautiful Ones, combines pop melodies and a catchy sing along chorus for dancing to.

Westlife Line-up Spring Shows - 16 March 2007

Sarah Walters

IF a band can be judged on its chart success, it's fair to say that Irish boy band Westlife are almost as big as The Beatles. They're not quite, but then in these terms the Beatles are only almost as big as Elvis.

Of course, we're talking number one singles, of which Westlife have had a whopping 14. It puts them third behind Elvis (who scored a mighty 21 number ones in the UK) and The Beatles (17) and ties them with Cliff Richard. That's quite some company to find yourself keeping.

But the luminaries above them don't intimidate these Irish boys. No, instead, they've cracked many a joke about wanting to score at least 20 top spot singles to knock the Beatles, as the saying goes, down to size.

And who knows? They might just do it. Everyone thought the race was over for Westlife when Bryan (now Brian) McFadden jumped ship back in 2004, but the 'Loife have completed a number of arena tours and racked up two number one albums and their 14th number one single, The Rose, since.

So, there's no denying Westlife have been a huge success story. They've found a following in 40 countries, including most of Europe, Africa, Australia and even Latin America, and they've sold almost 40 million records, earning them 28 platinum awards for their eight hit albums.

Melody

Not bad for the four boys from Sligo and Dublin. Ah yes, but then it was never just Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan at the controls. While some attribute Westlife's success to their ability to deliver a pleasing melody, others believe that it's the back office staff that have kept the Westlife hit machine moving.

Originally backed and tweaked by X Factor's Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, after their discovery by fellow judge Louis Walsh, Westlife was originally managed by Louis and Boyzone's Ronan Keating - previously Ireland's biggest pop export before Westlife stole his crown. Similar teams have now scored four number one singles for talent show winners...

Steered by knowing hands, then, but the group have always doggedly resisted any 'manufatured' tag, and perhaps the evidence is in their growth as an act.

It's barely eight years since the boys put out their first record, Swear It Again, in April 1999, but they have gone through many a metamorphosis since, moving their music from teen pop to stadium swing, while their reputation as a group that can shift a record or two has sealed them a new five-album deal.

Westlife play the M.E.N. Arena on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17. £29.50. Call the Box Office on 0870 060 1768 or

Anthony Callea Steps In For Young Divas On Westlife Tour – 19 February 2007

Tix On Sale Now

If you're a fan of Anthony's and going to the upcoming Westlife tour, your day is about to get a whole lot better... due to commitments, Young Divas have had to pull out from supporting the Irish superstars at their Oz shows and Anthony has been confirmed to join the tour! He'll now play all of their scheduled concerts, with the exception of Perth, warming up the crowds with songs from his latest album 'A New Chapter', including new single 'Addicted To You'. Tix on sale now.

It'll be a multi-continent pop spectacular when Anthony Callea joins Irish superstars Westlife on their forthcoming tour of Australia, kicking off in Brisbane next week.

Originally to be supported by Young Divas, Westlife were forced to reschedule their original September 2006 dates (due to delays in the recording of their latest release, 'The Love Album') and unfortunately the change of tour dates has conflicted with Young Divas schedule, resulting in a change to the bill (Ricki-Lee had songwriting commitments in the US).

Anthony is thrilled to be joining the group for their eagerly-awaited tour de force and is sure to thrill fans with his incredible live performances of songs from his latest album 'A New Chapter' as well as tracks from his debut self-titled album.

Anthony will perform in all cities, except Perth.

Divas Pull Out Of Gig – 10 February 2007

TOP-SELLING pop group The Young Divas have pulled out of the Westlife tour.

The group -- which contains Ricki-Lee Coultier, Emily Williams, Paulini Curuenavuli and Kate DeAraugo -- had been booked to support the Irish boy band when they tour Australia later this month.

But the girls have stepped down from the tour and been replaced by Anthony Callea.

The Westlife tour was initially booked for the Rod Laver Arena last September, but was rescheduled for the Vodafone Arena on February 26.

The support act reshuffle comes at a time when the group has been weathering speculation that Coultier is set to leave the quartet permanently, amid rumours of rampant egos and personality clashes.

Coultier filmed the video clip for the Diva's next single during the week and has headed overseas for six weeks to work on her solo album.

Lavina Williams, the sister of Diva Emily and also an Idol graduate, will stand in for Coultier while she is overseas.

Diva's manager David Champion tipped cold water on the red hot rumour that Coultier was planning to quit the group.

He said she would be promoting the girls' new single and would record the Divas' next album.

"The Young Divas' success has surprised everybody," Champion said.

"It has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, but the Divas are intent on going forward and continuing on this whirlwind of a ride.

"They are disappointed they won't be sharing the stage with Westlife, but are looking forward to headlining their own tour later this year."

Band's Life Goes On - 28 September 2006

By Gordon Barr, The Evening Chronicle

Westlife are heading back to the Toon. Entertainment Editor Gordon Barr has the details.

When Westlife last toured the country, rumours were rife it would be the group's last set of concerts.

But, as has been the case with the Irish pop stars for the past few years, the rumours proved to be unfounded and the lads today announced yet another tour and another show for Newcastle.

Westlife will play the Metro Radio Arena on April 3 next year, with tickets on general sale from 9am tomorrow.

It will be the group's 24th concert at the venue in the space of just five years - breaking their own record for gigs there.

Earlier this year, band member Kian Egan told the Chronicle he was amazed at Westlife's continued success and especially the response they always get from North East fans.

"We always get a fantastic reaction from the Geordie fans. All our shows there are memorable. But to think that more than five years on we would still be selling out there is incredible," he said.

With more than a dozen chart-topping singles behind them, perhaps it isn't surprising Westlife are still big news.

Knocked relentlessly by their critics, yet adored unconditionally by their fans, you can't argue with the statistics. "I know people mock us, but we do what we do," says Kian. "It is all about pop music and entertaining our fans. We don't pretend to be anything we are not, and while some may not like our music, there are plenty out there who do."

Between their debut single in 1999 and their last chart-topper, You Raise Me Up late last year, the lads have notched up two Brit Awards and four Record of the Year gongs.

And on their live performances, Kian says: "We like to go big. Our gigs are shows, in the proper sense of the word. Without distracting from the music, we like to give a big production, entertain.

"They seem to get bigger by the year. We're always looking at new ideas."

Westlife are at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, on April 3. Tickets are available from the usual outlets from 9am tomorrow.

Preview: Westlife - 28 September 2006

Gavin Allen, South Wales Echo

Westlife will play Cardiff International Arena on March 19 as part of their 2007 tour.

Tickets for The Love Tour 2007 will go on sale tomorrow at 9am although fanclub members can already buy tickets via the presale which began yesterday and can be accessed at www.livenation.co.uk/westlife

The band will be performing tracks from their forthcoming new studio album The Love Album, which is due for release this November, as well as all the hits and favourites from over the years.

The Irish vocal group, comprising Kian, Mark, Nicky and Shane, played four dates in Cardiff this year as part of the Face To Face 06 Tour, playing three consecutive nights at the CIA in March and once at Coopers Field in July as part of the Summer Nights series of outdoor concerts.

The band has performed 384 shows together since 2001 and the last tour was particularly memorable for them as they made history by playing at Wembley for the 21st time, becoming the pop act which has performed there the most times in the history of the venue.

Tickets will cost £29.50 and can be purchased from the CIA box office on 029 2022 4488.

Westlife To Return For Show - 28 September 2006

SCOTT BEGBIE

Irish sensations Westlife love Aberdeen so much, they are coming back.

The boy band will perform in the Granite City next year, it was announced this afternoon.

The lads, who thrilled thousands of fans in two sell-out gigs at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in May this year, will play at AECC next April.

The concert will be part of the band's The Love Tour 2007 and tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday.

The band's dates in May both sold out within an hour of going on sale.

Clarke Milloy, AECC managing director, said: "It is great to welcome back the band yet again to the AECC, where earlier this year they played two sell-out gigs as part of their Face to Face 06 Tour.

"We expect demand for tickets to be high due to the popularity of Westlife in the North-east.

"If their past Aberdeen concerts are anything to go by they will be memorable affairs."

And the return gig fulfils a promise band member Kian made to the ecstatic audience during the May shows.

That was when he pledged to the screaming fans the boy band would be back next year.

The boys will perform tracks from their forth- coming The Love Album, due to be released this November, as well as hits and favourites from over the years.

Westlife are phenomenally popular and are still at the top of their game after eight years together.

Last year's album Face To Face sold 1.1 million copies in just three months after its release in October.

Westlife have now performed a staggering 384 shows together since 2001.

They have also won the prestigious Record of the Year four times, notched up 35 million global record sales, garnered seven multi-platinum albums in the UK and won numerous other awards.
