The Special Kids Who Put A Song In To Our Hearts (December 2005)

As Westlife hope for another Christmas number one, Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian talk about their festive plans.

How did the duet with Diana Ross come about?
kian: We met her at Elton Johns party and our manager Louis Walsh, called her management to ask if she would like to work with us. She said yes so we recorded a version of her song When You Tell Me That You Love Me. She was really lovely.

What are your Christmas plans?
Mark: I'll be back home in Sligo with family and friends.
Will I be helping with the cooking? I’d say yes but, mum and dad are a force reckoned with in the kitchen.

Nicky: We've had people come to us for the past few years, but this year we are going to my wife Georgina’s sister, which should be cool.
Shane: It’s my daughters first Christmas, and I’m really excited. I love being a dad- Nicole is great. She’s five months old and a lovely little thing. Sadly, she can’t come with me everywhere. i really miss her when I’m away.

What would be your ideal stocking filler?
kian: I'd love a new bike I could attach my surfboard to, and I’d like an underwater camera as well!

And your favourite Christmas song?
Mark: Mariah Carey did an album of festive songs- All I want for Christmas is great for getting you in the mood.
Nicky: I love chestnuts roasting on an open fire. It always reminds me of walking down Grafton street in Dublin doing my Christmas shopping.

Will you pay a visit to the Royal Marsden hospital this Christmas?
Mark: We go whenever we can, and we're trying to get there before Christmas. It's one of the most humbling experiences to visit children who are suffering with cancer yet are full of the joys of spring. It puts your own worries in to perspective.

Westlife's album face to face is out now.
