In Bed With Westlife (From New Woman) - 29 September 2006
Danielle
Hine discovers the dark side of the squeaky-clean lads of pop.
Seriously.
Honestly, I tried and failed to hate Westlife when I met them. I
concentrated really hard on it, but, dammit, they made me laugh far too much.
A lot of people might think they’re about as cool as a Leo Sayer
comeback, but when you’re jumping around on a bed with four cheeky chappy
Irishmen with knicker-melting accents who are, shall we say, aesthetically
pleasing to say the least, I deft any woman to give a shit about whether
they’re hip or not. But you can imagine my joy when we gave them a
‘rock’n’roll makeover’ – helped by super stylist and Kylie’s pal, William
Baker – with smudged eyeliner, messy hair, and a telly to kick in. But
they’re far too polite, un-starry and no-bullshit to give it too much
attitude á la Babyshambles. And they don’t need to. They’ve sold 35
million albums – and counting. And like all good boybands, there’s one
to suit everyone.
Nicky (27, married to Irish prime minister’s daughter Georgina)
is a sweetie and the outgoing. Shane (27, married to Gillian and father
to one-year-old Nicole) is the most mature and sensible, and Kian (26, going
our with ex-Hollyoaks starlet Jodi Albert) is the cheekiest. Then
there’s Mark, 26, who was slightly perturbed at how keen I was for him to
become my new Gay Best Friend…
Boys – Franz Ferdinand said they make music for girls to dance to.
What do Westlife want girls to do to their music?
Kian: “Shag!”
Your new album is called The Love Album!
(they all laugh)
Nicky: “We should be called The Shagsters really”
Kian: “It should probably be called The Shag Album”
Nicky: “Yeah, we’re probably the best shags around!”
Any fave tunes for making lurve?
Nicky (to Shane): “What’s that song I always hear coming out of your room?”
Shane (perplexed): “What?”
Kian (dryly): “It’s Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, isn’t it?”
Nicky: “I thought it was Take My Breath Away!”
Shane: (resigned to the piss-taking) “Yeah, that’s it, man.”
The new album is all love song covers but have you ever waned to cover
something cooler, like a Razorlight song?
Shane: “I haven’t got a clue who they are!”
Kian: “I don’t know any of the new rock bands because I’ve always listened to
the old rock bands.”
Nicky: “I know they’re not a rock band but we did do a version of the
Pussycat Doll’s Don’t Cha on tour. We turned it into ‘don’t you wish
your boyfriend was hot like us’ with a sexy dance routine and lots of this…”
(moves his crotch up and down)
Liking the sound of that! What’s the most rock’n’roll thing Westlife
have ever done?
Shane: “Jesus, we’ve had plenty of parties. We like to christen each
country we go to.”
Talk me through the christening process
Mark: “We just get really drunk and dance and have a laugh.”
Westlife get shitfaced?
Nicky: “We do like a drink – but the problem is that people like to leave the
party before the bill is paid. So one of us always gets stung at the
end.”
Shane: “If we go out on, say, a normal Saturday night we’ll probably spend
about £1500 on drink. In clubs, especially in London, a bottle of vodka can be £200 and
that’s the cheapest!”
Every embarrassed yourselves at a really swanky celeb party?
Nicky: “The most embarrassing thing was the suits we wore to the World Music
Awards in 2004 in America.”
(the others nod) “We were in our Rat Pack phase and were wearing these
60s-style suits. They were brilliant but we did feel a bit stupid…”
Shane: “We got our picture taken with Usher and one of the papers said “It’s
Usher and his accountants.” We really laughed at that. But when
we went out that night we had thought we were looking the dog’s bollocks!”
On to saucier stuff – do your adult female fans wave filthy signs at your
concerts?
Shane: “Of course they do!”
Nicky: “It’s stuff like “Come On My Tits, Nicky”; “Nicky Show Us Your Dicky”;
“Give Us A Quicky Nicky”.”
Shane: “Quite often you’ll see “Let Me Taste Your Irish Cream”.”
Kian: “Or “I’ll Be Your Horse So You Can Ride Me”.”
Nicky: “And of course, “I’ll Raise You Up”.”
Do they proposition you in person?
Kian: “About six years ago a girl handed me a letter – she must have been no
more than 16. It basically said: “do you fancy having sex with me, this
is my number, call me”. It was awful being put on the spot by, bless
her, this ugly little ginger.”
Mark, you came out last year. How did your fans react?
Mark: “To this day there’s been nothing negative – only support.
And I’ve been with my partner Kevin for a year and a half. I’d
spent so long wishing I was in this situation and that I had somebody but for
loads of different reasons it wasn’t feasible. Then, finally I found
someone. So since coming out, it’s been the best year of my life.
Ever. I don’t mean to sound soppy but it’s true.”
Myself and Tanita on the NW art desk both want to be your fag hags.
How can we achieve this?
(The boys snigger)
Mark: (looking a bit disturbed by my suggestion) “You have to be able to
drink.”
Kian: “And be late all the time.”
Shane: “You have to be fabulous to be his fag hag.”
Nicky: “What does fag hag mean – just that you want to hang out with him all
the time?”
Yep. Every girl needs a gay best friend. Anyway, what have you
guys learnt about women over the years?
Nicky: “Never ask a woman if she’s pregnant unless you physically see the
baby’s head sticking out!”
Kian: “Just: Let. It. Go. Don’t bother arguing back. It makes
life easier. Men just want to sit there, watch the TV and relax.”
Nicky: “And fart and scratch…”
Shane: “Women are very rarely wrong. I mean, they might be wrong but
I’ve learnt to just go along with it and let them find out for themselves if
they’re right or not!”
Lad’s, you obviously know the score.
Right, that’s us won over!
Westlife’s new single is out this month and the Love Album is out next month.

A Phenomenon Around The World - 26 September 2006
BETH
PEARSON
It's not surprising that a boy band
should emerge from Iraq.
After all, the concept of cute lads singing cute songs has spread around the
world …
America
New Kids on the Block were one of the earliest and
certainly one of the most successful in the genre. Their series of hits
spawned 'N Sync, which was formed in 1995. After a haircut and a makeover,
Justin Timberlake emerged as its biggest solo star.
Britain
In the eighties and nineties, the UK embraced the boy-band genre
with hysterical enthusiasm. The first and most successful were Take That, who
have recently announced plans to record a new album, their first in 10 years.
But the list is long: Another Level, 911, Blazin Squad, East 17, Busted, 5ive
and Blue. The current standard-bearers are McFly, who have tried to
move away from the sweet sound of other boy bands to something more rocky.
Ireland
If you hate the boy-band sound then Ireland has a lot to answer for,
having created two of the biggest groups in the genre. Between 1993 and 2000,
Boyzone, led by Ronan Keating, sold more than 10 million records and
had four number-one albums. Four years later came Westlife, who have had 13 number-one
singles, the fourth highest behind Elvis, the Beatles and Cliff.
Norway
"Take On Me". Words to trigger a glow of
nostalgia or a wobble of hate. Whichever, the Norwegian band A-Ha, with lead
singer Morten Harket, werehuge in the eighties – and are still recording and
performing today.
The Far East
Asia is where boy bands past their best go to die, but many
home-grown bands have been produced too. One of the longest running is South Korea's
Sinhwa (which means myth or legend). The Japanese scene, meanwhile, is dominated
by SMAP, which is apparently short for Sports and Music Assemble People

Kian On Winning - 24
September 2006
DING! Ding! It’s round 1 between TAKE
THAT and WESTLIFE.
Last week I told you the two will go
head to head in a Battle Of The Boybands when they release albums in the same
week, either November 6 or 13.
And Westlife’s KIAN EGAN has come out
of his corner fighting – by laughing off the older boys.” “We’re better than
Take That. We’ve sold more records and have more fans – it’s as simple as
that.”
Take that, if you want to defend
yourselves, call me.

Kian Interview In Singaporean Magazine - 24 September 2006
© Thanx Mae for typing it up and letting me use it J
Congrats on the success of your current album, Face to Face. Are you
surprised at all with the success Westlife have been receiving throughout all
these years?
Kian :
Westlife has been together for such a long time now, and to be honest, I
don’t think there's any other boybands or pop groups out there that have
managed to last for as long as we have. Nonetheless, we do get surprised
every time our album turns out to be successful. As for the album Face To
Face, we kinda expected it to do well, cos there are really great pop songs
in there, but we didn’t think that it would be as successful to this extent.
Why did u guys name the album Face To Face?
Well, we actually kidna thought
of a few names but those didn’t stick, until we saw the photographs taken for
the album sleeve. We saw the album cover, and we just thought of face to
face. We thought that was cool, so that’s how we got it.
Why did u choose to cover Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up as your first single
for the album?
It’s just because it’s an amazing
song really. It’s very different compared to what we've done so far. So we
just got into the studios and recorded our version to see how it would sound
like. It turned out real good, totally blew us away. Thankfully for us, the
song's been one of Westlife's biggest hits.
You guys did a duet with the legendary Diana Ross on When You Tell Me That
You Love Me. What was it like working with her?
She was really cool. A lot of
people expected her to be a diva, demanding and stuff like that, but we found
her really easy to work with, really nice, really chilled out. So it was
really enjoyable to work with her I must say.
What’s your personal favourite track in the album?
Colour My World. Its just one of
those great pop songs, I enjoy it every time I listen to it. Try listening to
it really, you'll like it too!
You guys have had over 12 No 1 singles. Has it come to a point where u guys
just expect your songs to go to No.1?
Not at all (Laughs) I think we
kinda expect it to not go to No. 1, so that when it does, its twice more
exciting!
Brit rock acts are dominating the charts now. Some people say that pop is
dying out. What do you think?
Well there are certainly more
artistes who are doing a lot better than the pop artistes now. But there are
not a lot of pop artistes out there anymore, there's Westlife and a few
others. But I think its more of an industry thing, it’s like they're not
releasing pop music anymore cos it’s grown too big, so they're focusing more
on rock and hip hop now. But I think time is all we need, pop's gonna take
over the music scene once again!
Could you ever see yourself venturing outside of pop, ballad scene and trying
something new, maybe hooking up with a rock act like Franz Ferdinand?
Definitely no! (Laughs)
Many artistes use the internet as a way to get their music heard,
particularly through sites like Myspace. What do you think about that?
I think that’s brilliant really!
The internet is a fantastic thing, but I guess it’s not particularly for
Westlife. People who gets on the internet and listen to bands like Arctic
Monkeys are different from those who listen to Westlife. But still i say its
great for these other bands.
Take That's making a comeback with their reunion tour. Do you guys feel any
pressure from having another boyband in the market?
I think it’s fantastic! I’m a
huge Take That fan. Plus, any competition is good competition really.
Girls go crazy over you guys. Have u
had any bad moments with any crazed fans?
Oh god! (Laughs) The worst thing
that happened to me was that there was this fan, who gave me a letter. I told
her that I would read it when I get in the car or when I get home, but she
insisted that i read it right there, and so I did. You know what she wrote?
Well, she said things about wanting to have sex with me and all those nasty
stuff. It was crazy, and not very nice either! (Laughs)

US5: 'Maria' - 24
September 2006
Mentions
Westlife (and V)
Released on Monday, September 25 2006 - by
Miriam Zendle
It's as if no lessons have been learnt
from the failure of groups like One True Voice, Phixx and V. Clearly the US still think we're in the late
'90s, or Lou Pearlman wouldn't be hoiking his tired old obsession with boybands
to us yet again. Combine this with the likely return of 5ive later this month
and you have a surfeit of group types that just aren't popular at the moment.
Apart from the fabulous and omnipotent Take That, there's not much call for
boybands at the moment, and perhaps Pearlman should have thought of that
before he brought this dull, lazy pop music to us for our approval and
purchase. US5 won't get anywhere, it's just been done over and over and the
recent past does indicate that no one really cares any more about this style
of music.
'Maria', as noted earlier, sounds just like every average song spewed out
from a boyband. The only redeeming factor is that at least it's upbeat -
Pearlman must know that only Westlife
can currently achieve chart success with ballads! At the end of the day, this
will be lucky to reach anywhere significant in the charts. It's just not what
people are looking for at the moment.

About The “Love Album” Release Date - 22 September 2006
Hello everyone! J
I get many emails from fans asking me
when the new album is out. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Hopefully we’ll have some news about the album and single release dates soon.
For now things about the “Love Album” release
date are confusing as three sites have three different release dates for it:

Amazon.co.uk ~ 13 November 2006
HMV.co.uk ~ 20 November 2006
I’m sure there will be official news
about the new album soon.

“Sing In Front Of Westlife? I’d Rather Be A Prostitute” - 21 September 2006
© Thanx Tash for finding the article.
ACTRESS Jodi Albert says she’s a
bundle of nerves about singing in front of boyfriend Kian Egan and the other
members of Westlife at a wedding in November.
Albert, 23, who makes a brief return
to Hollyoaks in the autumn as Debbie Dean said: “I’ve been asked to sing in
the church at the wedding of Kian’s best friend Jason. It will be in front of
everyone in Westlife so I’m really nervous.”
Albert who was a member of now-defunct
band Girl Thing in her teens, added: “Singing has been part of my life since
I was a kid.”
At least Egan isn’t shocked by her
playing a prostitute in Channel 5’s comedy Respectable.
Albert, - who sports stockings,
suspenders and basques as tart-with-a-heart Hayley – said: “He’s my toughest
critic and he’d have said if he found the show distasteful. But he came to a
screening and he never stopped laughing. He’s bluntly honest about my work.”

I Made Some Captures - 21
September 2006
Hi everyone J
There were no news about Westlife
yesterday but hopefully there will be some official news about the new album
and single very soon! I’m very excited
and can’t wait for the lads to start promotion! They said on an interview in
Asia that when they would be back in the UK they would have some meetings
to decide which will be the new single and also do the video shoot so we’ll
have to wait and see when there will be news on their new releases!
For now, I made some captures from
Westlife’s visit to Hong Hong:

Miss Vote For Louis - 19
September 2006
X FACTOR
judge Louis Walsh could soon be swapping the talent show for a beauty
pageant.
The boyband promoter is set to become one of the celebrity panel for the Miss
World competition at the end of this month.
Westlife are due to perform at the lavish bash, which will see 26-year-old
Dubliner Sarah Morrissey compete for the title.
An insider said: "Sarah is busily working away in Poland at the minute in the
preliminary competitions.
"The final vote is a combination of celebrity judges and a public poll
on the night.
"Louis has been tipped to be one of the celebrity panelists alongside his
old Westlife pal Brian Mc- Fadden and girlfriend Delta Goodrem."

Westlife A Lincoln The Chain - 19 September 2006
WESTLIFE
have been caught up in a bitter power struggle involving one of England's
oldest football clubs.
The pop sensations' gig at Sincil Bank failed to sell out, and now potential
new investors are using the money-losing concert as a reason to slam the
club's present board of directors.
The mystery consortium believes the pounds 44,000 loss was evidence of how
badly the club was being run.
They say the club could be plunged into oblivion.
But last night Lincoln City Chief Executive, Dave Roberts, refused to blame
Westlife.
He said: "We have not hidden the fact the concert made a loss.
"Our break-even figure was based on 14,000 tickets being sold, but we
only sold 13,000.
"But Westlife were fantastic and did Lincoln City
proud.
"In fact we are planning to do it again next year but will not be
inviting Westlife.
"But that is no reflection on the band."
Known as The Imps, the team is languishing in League 2, the lowest tier of
English professional football.

Life As I know It ~ Jodi Interview & Picture - 17 September 2006
© Thanx Jo for typing up the
interview and scanning the picture J

Now the star if channel 5 drama Respectable, ex-Hollyoaks actress
Jodi,22,lives in London with her boyfriend, Westlife's Kian Egan
IF I COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT MYSELF IT WOULD BE...have
much more willpower. I can’t seem to stop eating chocolate.
THE MOST ROMANTIC THING ANYONE'S EVER DONE FOR ME IS... take me to Hawaii. It was my
third anniversary present off Kian and he’d chartered this fully catered
beautiful boat for when we were out there. It stopped in the middle of the ocean
so we could swim with dolphins. it was magical
NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THIS BUT IM VERY
GOOD AT...gymnastics. I used to compete when I was very young, and I can
still backflip and do the splits.
YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS BUT IM NO GOOD AT...geography. It’s embarrassing,
but I don’t know where any countries are. I’m learning though
TO WAKE MYSELF UP I ...have a lukewarm shower, Apparently it’s good for
your skin to have a cold one but I couldn’t face that.
LAST THING AT NIGHT I ALWAYS...take off my make-up. I am caked in it when
I’m working and I can’t stand seeing it on the sheets in the morning.
IF I HAVE TIME TO MYSELF...I go to a dance class
WHEN IM FEELING DOWN I ...I go home to my mums, Works every time
MY "HAPPY PLACE" IS...my comfy sofa in front of the TV
MY BEST FRIEND IS...Kian. He’s a fantastic listener, sensitive and very
understanding. He’s not laddish at all.
THE WORST THING YOU COULD SAY TO ME IS...that I am arrogant. I hate
arrogant people and I pride myself on treating people as I would want to be
treated.
THE BEST THING MY PARENTS TAUGHT ME...is to chase my
dreams. They made me ambitious and they don’t let me get depressed if things
are going wrong
IF I CAN, I ALWAYS TRY TO AVOID...sitting near smoker. I don’t preach but
I don’t like breathing in other people’s smoke.
IT’S NOT GOOD FOR MY IMAGE BUT I LIKE...pigging out. Nowadays everyone is
so critical about weight and I hate it. A little bit of everything is fine.
MY BIGGEST INFLUENCE...is Julia Roberts, she’s an amazing actress. I love
all her films, especially Pretty Woman
I DRIVE...an X5 Jeep BMW. I absolutely love it
IF I COULD PASS ANY LAW IT WOULD BE TO…abolish the congestion charge. I
always forget to pay it and a £50 fine is beyond a joke. I don’t think it
makes London
less polluted either.
THE SONG I CAN NEVER GET OUT OF MY HEAD IS...Christina Aguilera's Ain’t
No other Man, Its a grower and a brilliant song to dance to
WHEN I WAS A CHILD I WANTED TO BE A ...A pop singer, I worshipped Celine
Dion
IF I COULD BE SOMEONE ELSE ID BE...Beyonce. I love everything about her.
MY PROUDEST MOMENTS....was when I bought my puppy Prince in January. I
felt I was becoming a mum - although I’m not broody. Kian and I agreed well
get a bunch more when our careers slow down.
THE SHOP I CANT WALK PAST IS...All Saints. The clothes are so cool
THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING I’VE EVER SPLASHED OUT ON ...is a Dolce and
Gabanna dress for the soap awards a few years ago. It cost£2,500 and I was
shocked my mum let me spend that much but it was worth it.
I ALWAYS LAUGH AT ...friends. I have watched them all a hundred times but
I never get tired of it.
WHEN I NEED TO WIND DOWN I...have a bubble bath
I KNOW IM HAVING A BAD HAIR DAY WHEN...I go shopping for a new hat.
THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE ...was when my niece and nephew were born. It was
the most incredible feeling holding them for the first time and I fell in
love on the spot.
THE BOOK IM READING
NOW IS...Burtn Toast by Teri Hatcher. It’s a really fun read. She talks
about the insecure life of an actress which I can really relate too.
THE LAST PLACE
I WENT ON HOLIDAY IS...Hawaii.
Kian and I absolutely love it. The people there are so friendly.
MY FAVOURITE PLACE
IN BRITAIN IS...London. I do like it up
North, but I love the history and culture and buildings of the capital. It
makes you proud to be a Londoner.
MY LAST MEAL WOULD BE...at Wagamama. I love their noodles

Jakarta Concert
Review & Press Conference Interview - 16 September 2006
I added a Review “Westlife Captivates Jakarta
Fans In Face To Face Tour” from Westlife’s concert in Jakarta on 12 September 2006.
There are also
not tour related quotes of the lads from the press conference in Jakarta:
Westlife is
no less without Bryan McFadden, who decided to leave the band in 2004 for
family reasons.
"His
decision was a shock for us. But we took no offense. Now, Westlife is more
closely knit. The solidarity is even stronger," said the boy band.
When Bryan announced his
decision he said that he needed to devote more of his time to his family life
with former Atomic Kitten member, Kerry Katona and their children.
Bryan then started a solo career,
entering the charts at number one with his first solo single, Real To Me.
In Face
to Face, Westlife gave second wind to some old songs--You Raise Me Up,
Desperado (The Eagles), In This Life (Collin Raye) and When You Tell
Me That You Love Me, a song produced in collaboration with Diana Ross.
"We
are not recycling old songs in this new album. Nowadays, it is hard to find
good songwriters. But if there are any good songs, we will not hesitate to
accept them," said Westlife.
"It
was a golden opportunity for us to collaborate with Diana Ross because she is
a living legend. She was very energetic during the shooting of the music
video, and that was really surprising," told the band.
Besides
Diana Ross, Westlife has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the
music industry -- Mariah Carey, Donny Osmond, Lulu and Donna Summer.
To them,
having the opportunity to collaborate with other singers, especially the
seniors, is a blessing.
"There
will be another collaboration with another singer, but it is still a secret.
We will announce it soon," said Westlife.
Westlife
has become more popular ever to fans, as shown by its strengthening position
in the music industry

Armed Cops Are Called As Fans Mob Westlife - 15 September 2006
WESTLIFE
needed protection from armed cops after crazed fans tried to break into their
hotel.
Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily were stunned when a
truck-load of policemen carrying rifles stormed into their building and set
up a military-style barricade in Jakarta,
Indonesia.
Earlier hotel staff had called for extra security after more than 100 fans
gathered outside and began forcing entry through a door in the hope of
meeting their idols.
Kian said: "I guess they do things differently over here but we were a
bit shocked when all these cops came bursting in with rifles.
"You have never seen a place clear so quickly.
"These guys take no nonsense and that's just the way they do things
here.
"We were preparing for a gig and were trying to get into our tour bus
but couldn't get through because of all the fans were trying to get in to our
hotel.
"That's when the cops arrived and burst in. To be honest we'd have
preferred a gentle word from a security guard to the fans. It was all a bit
over the top.
"Our fans in Asia have been amazing and
they are passionate about the band and we really appreciate that."
One member of the Westlife road crew added: "I have never seen anything
like it and I'm speaking as someone who has been on the road with bands for
years.
"The Westlife lads were just standing in the lobby and next minute there
were cops everywhere pointing rifles.
"They even put up a barrier at the door with a load of armed guards
standing in front of it.
"I think the boys would rather they hadn't shown up because their own
bodyguards could have cleared a path to the tour bus.
"You couldn't help but laugh though because you would think President
Bush was in town with all the FBI-style security everywhere."
Westlife are in the middle of a month-long tour of Asia
and have been performing to sell-out crowds of 20,000 every night.
They are expected to return home at the end of the month and begin work on a
new studio album.

Wealthy Westlife’s Kian Earmarked For The X Factor - 13
September 2006
By
Siobhán Breatnach
Recent
reports that Sligo popstars Westlife are to
coach the finalists in the current series of the television show “The X
Factor” have been denied.
A spokesperson for the
television show has confirmed that only Kian Egan has been signed up to
appear on the reality music programme.
She said:
“There is no truth to Westlife appearing on the show. But Kian Egan will be a
guest judge at Louis’s boot camp.”
The X Factor is the UK’s
biggest talent search, being the first not to have an upper age limit, and
allowing solo singers and groups to compete. The competition is split into
three categories: groups, solo singers aged 16–24, and solo singers aged 25 and
over. There is, however, only one final winner.
Last year, music guru and
Mayo man Louis Walsh coached the solo singers aged 16-25 and won the series
with singing sensation Shayne Ward. Sligo’s
Conway Sisters made the final six last year.
This year’s
show, featuring Sligo singer Kian, will air
in the next three to four weeks on a Saturday.
Meanwhile, Westlife, of which
three of its members – Kian Egan, Shane Filan and Mark Feehily – are from Sligo, have paid themselves almost E9 million over a
two-year period, it has been revealed.
The payouts
were listed in documents filed at the Companies Registration Office for
Bluenet Limited – the company that handles the band’s accounts.
With
earlier earnings and investments, the latest figures are estimated to have
pushed each of the band member’s earnings up to the E10 million mark.

Boys Need Their Beauty Sleep Too - 12 September 2006
If you
thought the obsession with beauty was only a woman's prerogative, think again.
Irish boy band Westlife are apparently just as beauty conscious.
Their demands for rest led to a two-hour delay of their press conference. But
even then they couldn't manage to be on time, taking at least another 30
minutes for grooming and makeup before they fronted the cameras after 6pm.
After all that, the press only had 10 minutes with the pretty boys. Sony
BMG's promotion team says Westlife were too exhausted after getting off the
plane at 2.30pm on Saturday.
" They just performed in Singapore
and Taiwan
beforehand. Between those two cities, they got only two days of rest. But
they didn't get to rest before they came to Hong Kong,"
the team says.
Just how much beauty sleep do these boys need?

This was published on 7 September and

By Nhlanhla

TICKETS to
the much awaited show featuring United Kingdom and award winning
group Westlife will be released on September 30.
This was disclosed byBig Five
Entertainment Group Public Relations Officer (locally) Maria de Sousa.
The group will be performing at
the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre on December 30.
De Sousa mentioned that after
meeting as a committee, they decided that tickets be released on September
30.
"A lot of people still do
not believe that the group is coming but one can confirm that we have
finalised everything . They will be performing on December 30. As we had
said, we had to postpone the show because tickets had be on the streets three
months before the event. We have since finalised that and definitely, they
would be selling as from September 30," she said. She mentioned that the
group would not be performing only in the country but in Durban,
Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
"We would like to give
locals first preference to buy these tickets as Westlife is coming for Swazis
and the show is for the nation. Once the tickets are on sale, we will be
giving advertising rights to the Westlife's officials and these will be given
to local; press to verify the authenticity of the show," she said.

Westlife Is Cool About Gay Issue - 9 September 2006
By JOJO PANALIGAN
Westlife’s Mark Feehily did not restrict the local press from asking
questions regarding his sexual orientation and proudly answered one during
the press conference held early this week in lieu of their recent concert at
Araneta Coliseum.
"How has coming out changed my life?
Dramatically and for the better. I’ve had it bottled up all these years and
getting the support I did from everybody, who made it clear through words and
actions that it was no big deal, made coming out so easy for me," he
says.
As proof that the guys were not homophobic at all,
they even joked about it indirectly. When asked which diva they’d like to
work with after duets with Mariah Carey and Diana Ross in previous hit
singles, Shane Filan replies in dead pan expression, "Michael
Jackson," that sent people in stitches.
"Oh, I didn’t hear you say ‘diva.’ Well then,
Michael Jackson, the ‘divo.’ Will that do?" Shane says. "Shirley
Bassey."
Mark Feehilly is the latest member from an
internationally known boy band to admit publicly that he is gay. First was
Stephen Gately of Boyzone who came out just before he launched his solo album
years ago. Next is Lance Bassey of NSync who not only announced he is one but
also named a celebrity boyfriend.
Mark’s revelation did not affect the popularity of
Westlife at all. Their latest album "Face To Face" under Sony BMG Music Entertainment still produces hit
singles including "You Raised Me Up" which Nicky Byrne clarifies is
not an original by Josh Groban or Secret
Garden.
"That song has been remade so many times by
Irish artists that it’s as much our original as it is Josh’s or Secret Garden’s," says he. "Maybe
it became popular in Manilabecause ofJosh Groban’s version but in Ireland,
it’s almosttraditional tune."
Speaking of which, Westlife says they don’t see the
need to wear their identity further up their sleeves by using Irish musical
instruments in their songs.
"The Corrs already does that and it works for
them," says Shane. "As for Westlife, we’d rather stick to pop sound
of big ballads that we’ve always been into since (first single) ‘Swear It
Again.’"
Do they feel awkward when some people still refer to
them as a boy band?
"No, so long as they call us the bestlooking
boy band," says Shane, smiling. "Seriously, our only thing against
that label is that it connotes temporariness and in-it-just-forfun. Being
part of Westlife is beyond that since we are into this seven days in a week
for the last seven years. It’s definitely more than a hobby."
Make that in the past six years. Before doing
"Face To Face," the boys took a year-long vacation that was spent
on doing normal things as "waking up, eating Irish breakfast leisurely,
heading to the beach and then just chilling out while chatting with family
and friends."
"We sorely needed to feel normal," ends
Nikki. "We needed to miss what we were doing so that we imbue our latest
album and tour the energy of someone who is just experiencing these for the
first time."
Westlife has sold at least 35 million albums
worldwide. Among their hit songs are "Fool Again," "Swear It
Again," "Evergreen," "When You’re Looking Like
That," "My Love," "Flying Without Wings," "If I
Let You Go," "Queen Of My Heart," and "World Of Our Own
."

Korea Concert Review & About The New Album - 8
September 2006
I added a new review “Irish Group Westlife Promises to Return to
Korea Next Year” from Westlife’s concer in Korea on 6 September 2006.
The review also included quotes of the lads about the new Westlife album, so I will post the part about the new album here in case someone
doesn’t want to read the tour spoilers:
During a press conference, Westlife
thanked Korean fans who have supported them since their debut.
``Korea has been great for Westlife.
We found it hard to go back to Korea
and Asia because of our commitments in the U.K and Europe.
Our record company didn’t want us to go back, but we took a big stand to go
back to Asia. We’re delighted to be here
again,'' Egan said.
Westlife will release its next album,
``The Love Album'' on November 6. Filan said they consider November as a
``lucky'' month, since all of its albums were released during that month.
Egan said ``The Love Album'' will
feature some of the best-known love songs. ``It’s basically an album of some
of the best love songs ever written. Some are well known and some are not.
All are cover versions,'' he said.
When asked why Westlife continues to
release remakes of old songs, instead of writing their own music, Filan said
they are ``singers, not songwriters.''
``We want to have the best pop album
out, and if that means remaking old songs or having songwriters write for us,
we’d rather have the quality of the album than have songs that are 60 percent
good. It’s not fair to our fans. We want to maintain top quality songs,''
Filan said.
Westlife, which shot to stardom in
1999, had 13 number one singles in the U.K. charts and sold over 40
million albums around the world.

Westlife Flying Into Taiwan From Hong Kong
On Sunday - 8 September 2006
The China Post staff
Irish pop band Westlife is scheduled to
fly in from Hong Kong Sunday morning for their already sold-out concert in Taiwan
that evening.
The group was originally set to arrive in Taipei on Saturday. An
extra performance date in Hong Kong has caused a delay in their arrival in Taiwan.
As part of the band's Asia tour which includes stops
in the Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong,
Singapore and Indonesia, the much-expected concert is to be
staged at the Taipei
International Convention
Center at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.
This will be the pop band 's second performance in Taipei since they last visited Taiwan six years ago.
This time, the musicians, promoting their new album
"Face to Face," have promised to delight all Taiwan fans with a highly
proficient performance which has been dreamed of since 2000. Their latest
album, released last year, has sold more than 20,000 copies in Taiwan.
With seven multi-platinum albums, Westlife has sold
about 40 million albums worldwide. Their musical achievements included
winning "Record of the Year" four times in a row in England.
From 1999 to 2005, the band has had 13 number one singles and is the only
band in UK
chart history to have had their first seven singles go straight to number
one.
The Irish band's successes began in 1999 when their
second single, "If I Let You Go," hit the top spot in the charts.
"Flying Without Wings," in 2000, and "My Love," in 2003,
were among many of their chart-topping hits over the years.
Their No. 1 singles total ranks fourth-highest in
the UK,
behind music history-making artists Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Cliff
Richard.
Tickets for the Sunday concert range from NT$1,000
to NT$3,500. For more information call at 02-23419898 or check http://www.ticket.com.tw .

West Of
Whatever (outtakes from a press con) ~ Manila Press Conference - 5 September 2006
At the Westlife press conference
on Monday, so many rules were imposed on the media.
Some were reasonable (“Please keep
cell phones on silent mode”); others were overbearing (“Please don’t ask
about one of the members’ sexuality”) and perplexing (“No picture-taking”).
One rule (“Please put all
recorders on the presidential table before the band comes out”) smacked of conceit
because the subtext was that no one should approach the artists.
A reporter was not about to be
cowed.
He outed himself as a devoted
fan, asked three questions, then—protocol be damned—he walked up to the
venerable presidential table to have his precious Westlife poster
autographed, his hand pumped and his picture taken with the boys.
As coup de grâce, he dished out
a hefty portion of the band’s “If I Let You Go.”
Surprise
laugh
A routine question resulted in
unintended comedy.
Asked which diva they would love
to work with next, in light of a collaboration number with Diana Ross (“When
You Tell Me That You Love Me,” in their latest album “Face to Face”), Shane
Filan quipped: “Michael Jackson.”
The entire room was in stitches.
A perplexed Shane wondered, “Why
are you laughing?”
After the booboo was explained
Shane backtracked: “Jackson’s
a divo. I’d love to work with Streisand.”
Mark Feehily, who is openly gay,
laughed through the whole exchange. He discussed his own coming out of the
closet, saying it “changed my life dramatically.”
Westlife had a concert at the
Big Dome that same night.

He's Kian To
Help - 3 September 2006
EXCLUSIVE X Factor judge Louis
brings in Westlife star as talent aid And it could launch a solo career
By Jon Wise
X FACTOR judge
Louis Walsh has hired Westlife heartthrob Kian Egan to help pick his acts -
amid suggestions that he plans to launch the singer's solo career.
Officially Kian,
26, will act as a talent spotter for music mogul Louis, 54.
But an insider
said: "Louis has a real soft spot for the Westlife lads. Westlife could
be past their sell-by date and by giving him exposure on X-Factor, Louis may
be hoping to gauge his appeal with the public.
"If he
proves to be a hit it would be a perfect chance for him to try some solo
material." Fellow judge Simon Cowell has been taking advice on selection
from his ex, the singer Sinitta, for two years. The source said: "Kian
is there to do the same for Louis. And it could be profitable for him."
Contestant
Nikita won over the judges last night with a song she sang at her mother's
funeral. Nikita, 17, from Glasgow,
performed Bonnie Rait's Dimming Of The Day. Simon told her: "It's one of
the rare times someone comes into the room and sings absolutely from the
heart."
But he told
Karen Hunter, 21, and Carmen Cairns, 20: "You are utterly useless."

Rob &
Elton Up For X - 3 September 2006
EXCLUSIVE They'll help finalists
By Lara Gould Tv Reporter
ROBBIE
Williams, Elton John and Westlife have been signed up to coach the X Factor
finalists.
Judges Simon
Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne struck a secret deal to recruit the famous
names to the Saturday night show.
Heart-throb
Robbie, a huge X Factor fan, will coach the 16-25s. Legend Elton John - whose
first hit was way back in 1971 - will advise the over 25s.
And Irish band
Westlife, who are managed by Louis, will pass on tips to the groups. The
stars will join when the show goes live next month.
An insider
said: "Simon said he wanted this series to be the biggest and best yet.
This is a massive coup."
Other stars
who will make guest appearances on the ITV1 talent search include Robbie's
former band Take That, American singer Mariah Carey and Simon's group Il
Divo.

The Sunday
Mirror can also reveal who each judge will look after - Simon will handle the
16- to 25-year-olds, Louis will take the over-25s and Sharon will take care of the groups.
Our source
said: "The judges all pretend to take it lightly, but the truth is they
are all desperate to win."
- LAST year's X
Factor winner Shayne Ward has had surgery to remove nodules from his throat
at a clinic in Los Angeles.
He has been
told not to talk for two weeks as he recovers.

Mark Interview At
Access All Areas.net.au - 1
September 2006
This interview was published before Westlife postponed their Australian
tour and I found it yesterday.
Access All
Areas.net.au: Congratulations on your
re-invention in to the Australian market, you must be excited to be heading
back to Australia
after six years?
Westlife - Mark: Yeah absolutely! I mean we went there so long ago and
I mean it’s literally so long ago that I can’t remember almost what it’s like
because we’ve done so much since then… so when we went back there in February
it was almost like our first time over again because so much had changed
since the first time we got there and we really did genuinely have and I’m
sure it could sound like I’m just saying that anyway or whatever but we
really did genuinely have a great time… we had some of our family and friends
and it was an amazing tour, three week… not a holiday, obviously because we
were doing lots of work and stuff, but it was like a really nice time you
know.
Access All Areas.net.au: The last time you were in Australia was in 2000 for a quick promotional
tour for ‘Coast To Coast’, why has it taken you so long to come back to Australia and more so to tour Australia?
Westlife - Mark: Well I mean honestly I can say we have been begging
our record label to have another shot in Australia practically since the last
time we were there and we’ve seen other acts and some bands a million miles
away from Westlife style or whatever and have enjoyed great reception there
and we always said why not give us a chance to do it you know and it was late
last year that we eventually persuaded them to look at it and they talked to
the Australian label on that end of things they said you know what ‘You Raise
Me Up’ we like that song we’ll give that a shot. So we went down there in
February not currently knowing what to expect and it all kicked off and it
all looked great so we’re all delighted and at this stage and age of the
band, to still be breaking new territories and to be finding like a whole
bunch of new fans is kind of really a refreshing feeling because you kind of
think eight years in, you kind of would’ve broken every market that you could
by then you know so it’s great to still be opening up doors down there.
Access All Areas.net.au: You had so much success in Australia for the release of
‘Coast To Coast’ in 2000, and thereafter your albums failed to do as well in
the Australian market. Have you been surprised at how well received your new
album ‘Face To Face’ has been with Australian audiences?
Westlife - Mark: Yeah absolutely! I mean kind of, the last thing we
expected was to kind of break a new market especially to kind of get such a
massive immediate response from a song you know and its been fantastic, you
know, we have our website which obviously allows us to communicate
internationally at the touch of a button and we’re getting so many more new
kind of Australian people signing up to the website and kind of visiting the
website and everything and that’s one good way of gauging the amount of
people and whether they like our stuff or not obviously and also the success
of the single in terms of chart positions and radio play and stuff and its
all going so well… its fantastic we didn’t expect that and the fact that its
going so well is something that we’re very proud of. We make our music so
that people enjoy that and if most people in Australia are enjoying it then
that’s kind of our goal met you know and the next stage of it all now is to
go there and do our first proper big live concert tour over there which is
something that we feel is kind of our best point you know our live show is
the end product out of everything, we make the album and the fans get to
hopefully know the album and then the next stage is finally perform face to
face with the fans in a live show.
Access All Areas.net.au: For sure and we can’t wait to see you guys
return here in September!
Westlife - Mark: Yeah we’re looking forward to it!
Access All Areas.net.au: Before ‘Face To Face’ you had a bit of a
Frank Sinatra phase with your last album that was released in the UK
with ‘Allow Us To Be Frank’, what led you in to that direction?
Westlife - Mark: The music kind of industry over here is changing so
much and like when we started out there was lots and lots of amazing pop
songs up for grabs from a lot of producers and songwriters and these days
most of the people are going a rock direction or RnB/hip hop direction and at
the point, and we call it the swing album… the ‘Allow Us To Be Frank’ album,
it was just basically we were finding it very difficult to find songs of the
quality that we wanted them to be at and we certainly didn’t just want to
throw out any old album so we decided to try something different for one
album and wait and give ourselves a bit more time to find the songs to put
together for ‘Face to Face’ so essentially we gave ourselves an extra year to
find the songs for the album for ‘Face to Face’ and I think that kind of
shows because I think you know it’s obviously doing really well and if we
kind, like I said before if we didn’t wait that year and threw together any
old album who knows what we’d be doing right now if you know what I mean. In
terms of the direction of the ‘Allow Us To Be Frank’ album we kind of looked
at a lot of different options and different styles to try and do and we just
felt that first of all the Frank stuff was down our street and we’d
definitely like to try it out, and also our A&R man, Simon Cowell, is a
massive fan of swing music, its his favorite type of music, and he was very
expressive on how much he would’ve liked to have heard us singing that sort
of stuff so we gave it a shot and I think it kind of worked and it got us
through a year which was one where there was some turbulence because it’s the
fact when Brian left the band and we were looking for the pop songs and we
couldn’t find them so we done this album which bought us some time and we put
together ‘Face to Face’ which ended up being one of our most successful
albums ever so I think it all worked out quite nicely.
Access All Areas.net.au: As you say, in 2004, you lost Brian McFadden
to a solo career, how did that impact the band?
Westlife - Mark: That was kind of the worst thing that ever happened
in the band really. We’ve been through ups and downs of coarse like anybody
else but a member leaving the band was something we… first of all was
something we didn’t expect and we weren’t ready for but secondly we didn’t
know how to handle it… we had learnt how to handle every other obstacle over
the years and because we’ve been through so many different ups and downs and
obstacles with this, that and the other but we never anticipated a member leaving,
so we didn’t know what to do and it was the first time in a long time that
was something new, that we were up against something new that we had never
kind of experienced before and that was a very scary situation you know and
we didn’t know whether it spelt the end of the band; we didn’t know whether
the fans would be like ‘oh well its not the same, the five of you out there
anymore’, the kind of ‘sorry its all over now’ or whatever. It was exciting
and scary, every emotion going through our heads… but we decided to pick
ourselves up and move on and we all sat there and said “guys at the end of
the day it’s A or B… we either want to continue or we don’t, so what is it?
And we all decided that we wanted to continue and we did continue and we
probably were more focused than we were before he left because we had a new
motivation and the motivation was to prove everyone wrong because everybody
started saying that was going to be the end because the cracks are showing,
but actually the band has become bigger and better since Brian has left and
its in no disrespect to Brian, but its just the story of the band kind of
goes on and its fantastic that we’re still here and I think the fact that
Brian leaving gave us a bit of a shake and we sort of took the negative thing
and turned it into a positive thing and just focused even harder you know.
Access All Areas.net.au: It must be quite mind blowing that you’ve
notched up four ‘Record Of The Year’ awards in the UK and sold 40 million
albums world wide!? Where do you see the end of Westlife… or more to the
point, is there an end?
Westlife - Mark: It’s certainly no time soon as I said it’s definitely
not going to leave for the next two years at least and the only reason why I
don’t say any longer than that is because it’s hard to predict anything after
that, but we’ve got a new album coming out this October, we’re recording a
new album at the moment and if we don’t record another album next year we’ll
do a greatest hits and after that that will be our second greatest hits
album. Fact that it’s a greatest hits doesn’t mean the end it’s just time to
put all our singles on an album again if you know what I mean and at the
moment that’s kind of the goal is to get to a greatest hits part two which is
two years away but that’s just in terms of goals, I don’t think that’s the
final goal its just the next kind of as far as we can see ahead at the moment
you know.
Access All Areas.net.au: The Westlife catalogue is huge when you
consider you have released seven albums, which song is closes to you and why?
Westlife - Mark: Mostly we’ve recorded over 200 songs or 300 songs and
its hard to pick one in particular and ‘Flying Without Wings’ is one song
which was off our first album that I still, to this day, don’t get sick of
singing and that song was first of all an amazing career record for us, and
by an amazing career record I mean the chart positions and the sales and the
song that really confirmed to our audience that we weren’t just about six
packs and dancers or whatever we were more about the vocals and stuff like
that and the quality of the song and as I say, to this day I still don’t get
sick of performing the song. Also there’s another called ‘World Of Our Own’
which is the same except it’s just more up tempo, then there’s just random
songs like a song called ‘You Can’t Lose What You Never Had’ which is more
sort of an urban song and it’s got more soul and an RnB type song which is a
particular favourite style of things for me… there’s so many songs to be
honest and there’s another song called ‘Bad Girls’ which is very up tempo,
more kind of N’sync style song… there’s endless songs that I kind of enjoy
singing so its kind of hard to decide on what.
Access All Areas.net.au: Your touring Australia in September, what can
fans expect to see from a Westlife show?
Westlife - Mark: The main objective really is from the moment the show
starts to the moment the show ends is to totally keep the audience
entertained to the maximum… I mean the last thing that we want is for someone
to sit down and be bored, you know what I mean and we all love going to see
other bands and live gigs and there’s always lots of ups and downs you know
where some parts will be amazing and other parts you can like ‘oh this bits a
bit boring you know’. We want there to be no boring parts of this show, we
kind of never get too anal about it. Our show is designed for the audience
therefore we design the show around songs that they would know and songs that
they would enjoy or to listen to and then we have all the big lights, we have
a big live band, got lots of different costumes and lots of lights and
pyrotechnics and explosions and stuff like that so you know, so hopefully
they can expect hopefully what we feel as a really good quality pop show
where from start to finish they will be entertained and hopefully they won’t
be bored for a second.
Access All Areas.net.au: Now you’ve just signed a new recording
contract with SonyBMG to release another five records? Where do you see
Westlife going musically in the future?
Westlife - Mark: I think to be honest we’re a pop band through and
through and obviously there’s little variations in pop music… one song could
be a little bit more live sound or a little bit more rocky and one song could
be a little more folk or whatever but the core of our music will always be
pop music. We love singing pop music and it’s always going to be pop music…
and just kind of modern pop songs really if you know what I mean, that’s kind
of the style that you’d call it if you know what I mean and classic pop you
know and that’s what its going to be and I don’t think that’s ever going to
change.
Access All Areas.net.au: Well thanks for taking the time out of your
schedule to chat to us, congratulations again on the album and we can’t wait
to see you back here in September!
Westlife - Mark: Fantastic man, same here, we’re really looking
forward to getting back, we had a great time in February and we really want
to get back down there and get back in to it you know.
