Stunned By The Sex Joke - 29 October 2006

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Chocked Westlife. When Westlife visited TV4’s "Förkväll" yesterday Carolina Gynning joked about how Swedish lads often get aroused when they dance closely to Westlife’s music.

Stunned by the sexjoke
Gynning talks about penises under the interview

"Guys gets aroused by dancing to your songs"
Carolina Gynning's crude joke in "Förkväll" made Westlife stunned by surprise.
-I preferred the dark-haired of them, Mark Feehily says afterwards and refers to Carina Berg.
Aftonbladet followed Westlife’s hectic 24 hours in Stockholm yesterday.
-It's wonderful to be back in Sweden, says Nicky Byrne when they arrive to the first stop of the night - the "Förkväll" studio.

Laughed embarrassedly
On the air Carolina Gynning asks how you dance to their music in Ireland and then says Swedish guys often get aroused when they dance close to a girl, and have to bend their backs to hide it.
The Westlife gang are dumbstrucked laughs embarrassedly and jokes away Gynnings acting. Then they hold up a magazine-cover with a naked Gynning.
Afterwards the lads say that they think the hosts were funny and beautiful, both of them.
-But I preferred the dark-haired, Mark Feehily says.
Gynning thinks her joke was appropriate despite that it was six o'clock at night and that Westlife's target group is quite young:
-I just wanted to joke a little, I don't think I was that bad.

"Everyone's so humble"
Westlife then continued to the "Idol"-studio to perform and late last night they had a show in a packed Café Opera where they let themselves be charmed by Swedish beauties.
-Everyone's so humble and good looking in this country. We are shocked, Kian Egan said.
-This show exceeded all our expectations and we need to make a stop here on our world tour next year.
But the planned partynight turned out short.

Article From Swedish Site/Magazine Okej - 28 October 2006

Thanx akerspoket1 for translating it in English

They managed to survive the inevitable death of boybands. Now Westlife are trying to lure its ageing fanbase back with nostalgic love cover on "The Love Album".

When Brian McFadden quit the band in 2004 many people believed Westlife would go down such as bands like Take That, N´sync and Boyzone had done before.

But Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Kian Egan all faced the boyband death straight in the eye and surprised everyone when they released "Allow us to be Frank" where they sang songs originally by Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.

-It never crossed our minds to quit. We decided to become even more successful, to prove to our fans, to the record company, to our families and to ourselves that we are more than a boyband, says Shane.

Two years later we meet Shane and Nicky in a hotel room to talk about their new cover album. This time they have taken on the challenge to cover such classic love songs as The Rose, Total Eclipse and You’ve lost that loving feeling.

-We’re getting older, and so has our audience. It feels natural to go back in time and pick out eleven of the best love songs ever written, Nicky explains.

They admit that releasing "the Love album" is a trick to try and keep up the publics interest for Westlife. The original plan was to release a studio album, but they couldn’t gather enough of hits in a year.

They have now requested to all of their songwriters, including the Swedish hitmakers Per Magnusson, David Kreuger, Jörgen Elofsson and Andreas Carlsson, to come up with new material for an album they´ll record in 2007.

-We’d love Max Martin and Rami to work with us again. that would be huge. All the Swedish song writers are fantastic, but Max and Rami have something special indeed, Nicky says.

On Friday, Westlife made an appearance in TV4’s "Idol 2006". But Nicky and Shane have split opinions about talent shows in TV.

-It’s the biggest thing that will ever happen to them, and it’s happening even before their careers have started. Besides they have an impatient audience. When the next season starts, they are only interested in who will become the next poop idol, Shane says.

-At the same time, it is an amazing platform for new artists. If I wasn’t an artist already, I would probably take the chance, says Nicky.

Westlife Set To Star In Woolies’ Christmas Campaign - 27 October 2006

Irish pop act Westlife will star in the Woolworths Christmas advertising campaign.

The boy band appear alongside Woolies' own stars, sheep and sheepdog Wooly and Worth, in the retailer's main Christmas ad and will release the song they sing in the ad, Westlife's version of White Christmas, as an exclusive download from

The GBP25 million campaign is the retailer's biggest Christmas spend since it de-merged from Kingfisher in 2001 and includes a five-fold increase in online spend. The first ad airs on Wednesday 1st November in the Emmerdale break on ITV1.

There are six TV executions, a main 'brand' 50-second ad, two 30-second 'offer' ads and three 20-second 'tactical deal' ads. The campaign also features an in-store POS suite, press ads, flyers and a Christmas micro-site.

Westlife star in the main brand ad. The ad is a continuation of the 'More Great News' format and sees news anchorman Worth cross live to roving reporter Wooly who is taking a magical journey on an express train touring a Woolworths store.

The ad ends on the Big Red Book which opens to reveal a huge Christmas tree with a giant bauble on top. The bauble falls, burying Worth in the snow.

The two 30-second 'offer' ads push two of Woolworths' biggest offers this Christmas - 25% off big brand toys (featuring the giant present wrapping machine again, this time Wooly ends up in being wrapped as a present) and the 'biggest ever 3 for 2' offer. The 'tactical deal' ads break in early December.

Stephen Robertson, Woolworths' marketing director, says: "This year, whether you're in-store, on Woolworths.co.uk, shopping the Big Red Book or seeing us on TV, it's all about the magic of Christmas. We've taken everything that is magical about Christmas, wrapped it up and gone to town with it on everything that is Woolies. It's a return to the Woolworths advertising of old, which customers fondly remember as capturing the excitement of Christmas, but we've brought it bang up to date and made it relevant to Woolworths today with messages like online shopping, in-store ordering and tactical deals.

"Having Westlife star alongside Wooly and Worth is a coup for us. With 13 number one singles under their belt they are the one of the biggest bands ever and they connect well with our customers."

Westlife To Star In Christmas Campaign - 27 October 2006

Irish boy band Westlife is set to star in a Woolworths Christmas advertising campaign launching 1 November on ITV1.

The pop act will appear alongside Woolies' own stars, sheep Wooly and sheepdog Worth, in the retailer's main Christmas ad.

The ad was created by BBH, London with media buying done with Zenith Optimedia London.

Westlife will also release their version of the song White Christmas, which is performed in the ad, as an exclusive download from www.woolworths.co.uk.

The £25 million campaign is the retailer's biggest Christmas spend since it broke away from Kingfisher in 2001.

The campaign includes a main 'brand' 50 second ad, two 30 second 'offer' ads and three 20 second 'tactical deal' ads. The campaign also features an in-store POS suite, press ads, flyers and a Christmas micro-site - www.woolworths.co.uk/news. All will promote the new Big Red Book catalogue.

Westlife star in the main brand ad which is a continuation of the 'More Great News' format and sees news anchorman Worth cross live to roving reporter Wooly who is taking a magical journey on an express train touring a Woolworths store.

The train finishes up in 'Entertainment Land' where Westlife are carol singing White Christmas. The train veers towards the group who jump out of the way, falling into snow.

The ad ends on the Big Red Book which opens to reveal a huge Christmas tree with a giant bauble on top. The bauble falls, burying Worth in the snow.

Stephen Robertson, Woolworths' marketing director, said: “This year, whether you're in-store, on Woolworths.co.uk, shopping the Big Red Book or seeing us on TV, it's all about the magic of Christmas. Westlife Mistaken For Gang - 27 October 2006

Members of Irish boy band WESTLIFE were mistaken for a gang of hoodlums by the terrified owner of a fish and chip restaurant in Birmingham, England recently.

FLYING WITHOUT WINGS singers NICKY BYRNE and SHANE FILAN had walked into eatery George And Helen's with a bouncer - and because they wrapped scarves around their faces to avoid being recognised shop owner KOSTAS GEORGIOU thought the worst.

He says, "They looked really intimidating and we were worried."

Guess who I had in my cheep shop…

By Patrice John

POP superstars Westlife poped into a Midland chippie – and staff mistook them for a tribute band!

The hungry superstars were “Flying Without Wings” when they popped into George & Helen’s chippie in Harborne, Birmingham, this week.

When asked if they were a tribute band, they left staff and customers open-mouthed by revealing they were the real thing.

The chips could have been down for staff at a Birmingham chippy – after they mistook pop superstars Westlife for a tribute band.

The hungry heart-throb boyband, who have sold millions of records worldwide, were partly disguised when they popped into George & Helen’s, in Harborne this week.

Staff vaguely recognized them and asked if they were a Westlife tribute band. But the pop superstars laughed it off and insisted they were the real thing.

They called into the chip after leaving an interview at a Birmingham radio station. Owner Kostas Georgiou was behind the counter when the pop idols came in.

He said: “When I first looked up I just saw these huge guys coming in. Their faces were covered and I really thought that I would have to have keep my eye on them. I was hoping they would be relaxed and not cause any trouble, then I noticed who they were.”

“Nobody recognized them at first but then one of my assistants cottoned on and asked if they were part of a tribute band. They laughed and just said ‘No, we ARE Westlife.’”

“They had just come from the BRMB radio station and said they fancied some fish and chips. Word must have got around the studio about how good our chips are.”

Band members Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan arrived at the chip-shop at just after 9pm on Tuesday.

Father of two Kostas, aged 46, and his sister Penny Georgiou, aged 42, run the shop for their parents Gorge and Helen. But Penny, who is said to be “a mad Westlife fan” was on a day off when her idols came in.

“She is a Westlife fan, but she was not there on the day.” Kostas said.

“When I told her they have been in, she was gut sick. She should not have taken the day off at all.”

And George is sure the boys enjoyed their food – three portions of fish and chips and one portion of roe and chips.

“They were really down to earth,” he said. “And they wouldn’t accept freebies either. I also asked them to serve in the shop but they wouldn’t do it!”

The shop, in Court Oak Road, Harborne was opened by George and Helen in 1967. They retired from running it full-time, two years ago.

It was recently reviewed in the Birmingham Hall and given a glowing four stars by the newspaper’s “Cheap as Chips” expert Graham Young.

Weslilfe stars Mark and Kian popped into Key 103 to speak to Nicksy.

Nicksy launched a competition to find a Westlife 'superfan'. The deal was they had to make a banner about the boys and put it up in public somewhere.

Fans then took pictures and sent them in to Late Night Nicksy. Banners were put on roundabouts and hung from motorway bridges around Manchester. 16 year old Natasha Birchencough from Saddleworth was the lucky winner. She tied her banner to her horse Thomas and then rode it round Saddleworth!

That won the teenager the chance to ask Mark and Kian some questions of her own, but Thomas stayed at home!

Steinman Lauds Cover Drive - 26 October 2006

JIM Steinman has had his songs covered by everyone from Barbra Streisand to Sisters of Mercy.

As well as the latest reworkings of songs he prepared earlier by Meat Loaf on Bat 3 (plucked from everywhere from his 1981 solo album Bad For Good to the soundtrack to MTV's recent remake of Wuthering Heights), Steinman has approved Westlife's cover of Total Eclipse of the Heart, his song which gave Bonnie Tyler a global hit in 1983.

"I think it's an excellent, terrifically done performance by Westlife and incredibly faithful to the original," Steinman writes on his blog.

But though Meat Loaf has picked through old Steinman songs, he says he'll never touch Total Eclipse.

"I think Bonnie did the definitive version. People say, 'Why don't you record that? She owns that song'. If I think someone owns the songs, I will not touch it. I wouldn't touch that song if my life depended on it. See, I don't consider It's All Coming Back to Me Now a cover because it's mine. That song was written for me.”

Other Steinman-penned non-Meat Loaf hits include Boyzone's No Matter What, Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out for a Hero, Air Supply's Making Love Out of Nothing at All and he even produced Take That's epic Never Forget.

Westlife: We’d Take That Duet - 25 October 2006

Exclusive by Beverley Lyons & Showbiz Liz

WESTLIFE are thrilled that so many of their old boyband friends are making a comeback on the music scene.

But while the guys would love to collaborate with Take That or 5ive in the near future, they admitted they wouldn't be so quick to work with Boyzone.

Singer Mark Feehily said: "I love the fact Take That and 5ive have made a comeback.

"Take That were one of the bands that inspired me to do this and All Saints were an extremely cool band too."

He added: "I'm always up for a collaboration, maybe on a new uptempo kind of song with 5ive or Take That.

"In the past we've done duets with girls like Delta Goodrem and Diana Ross, but it'd be a nice change."

However band - mate Kian Egan reckons a get together with Boyzone wouldn't be so fruitful.

He said: "We were involved with Boyzone for a long time but I don't think we would tour with them again if they reformed. How would you do it with the different sets? I don't see that happening."

Kian reckons it was crazy that the once popular bands split up in the first place.

He reasoned: "Boybands like 5ive stopped at the height of their career. They had a really successful career and then they split up. Why would you do that?"

And Kian says there's no way ex-band-mate Brian McFadden would rejoin the group.

He said: "I can't see it. Brian left for a reason and we just see ourselves as a four-piece now.

"He's a lovely guy and he's great craic and we miss him out on the road - although he was a handful sometimes."

Kian and Mark were on a promotional tour of Glasgow Clyde FM, Edinburgh's Forth FM and Ayr's West sound radio stations yesterday.

The pair, along with band-mates Shane Filan and Nicky Byrne, are about to release a cover of Bette Midler's The Rose as part of their new Love Album.

The album also features All Out Of Love, the boy's duet with Delta Goodrem - the girlfriend of Brian McFadden

And the boys admit they were smitten by the Australian singer. Mark said: "Delta's amazing. The best way to describe her is like a princess. She is such a nice girl."

Westlife's The Love Album is released on November 13 and new single, The Rose, on November 6.

That’s Not Pad Shane - 24 October 2006

WESTLIFE EXCLUSIVE WESTLIFE SINGER BUYS EUR3MILLION ENGLISH MANSION

BYLINE: BY PAUL MARTIN

WESTLIFE star Shane Filan has splashed out EUR3million on an English mansion

The singer bought the seven-bedroom home last month and will begin moving in next week, though he will keep his Irish home.

The impressive property, situated just outside South London, boasts a swimming pool, snooker room, private home cinema and a e50,000 security system.

But pals of the 27-year-old star say it was the huge gardens that really attracted Shane as they'd be perfect for his 16-month-old daughter Nicole. A pal revealed last night: "Shane and his wife Gillian are moving into the house next week. They are keeping their mansion in their home town of Sligo but this will be a base for them when they are in England working. Shane fell in love with the house as soon as he had a look round.

"There are also championship golf courses close by and he admits that was a big incentive too.

"And it has huge grounds. He and Gillian can even take Nicole for a swim during the summer in the pool. They will spend around six to eight months of the year there."

The singer is estimated to have earned around EUR15million since hitting the big time with Westlife.

But he is also a keen businessman, owning a share of a property development company with his brother Finbar. He also has a major share in the Irish franchises of the Morgan clothes stores.

Shane's new pad boasts a security system with 20 close circuit cameras linked up to a security office.

Each home in the private development is protected by 24-hour security guards and a sophisticated monitoring system. Entry can only be gained with a code.

Shane sold his apartment in Chelsea earlier this year because it was not suitable for family life.

And last night he confirmed the new purchase to the Irish Daily Mirror, saying: "Yes, it's true that I have bought a new house.

"I wanted somewhere with nice big private grounds for Nicole to play in and we have found somewhere ideal. Sligo is still my real home though."

Radio Promo - 23 October 2006

Hiya everyone J

As you can see I added all the hours of the interviews that the lads will give tomorrow at the Upcoming events with the links to each radio station to listen live to the interviews. I don’t know whether all the interviews will be aired live tomorrow or some of them will be pre-recorded and aired in the future though. Also, there will probably be some delays if the lads are not on time to a radio station so keep checking the links.

Yaa loads of Westlife tomorrow!!

Westlife Big Up Upper Street - 23 October 2006

On the day of their single release Upper Street get an encouraging message from a fellow manband...

Upper Street may be feeling a tad nervous today with the release of their make-or-break single 'The One' but they've been backed by one of the biggest manbands in the business.

Westlife, who've sold millions of records during their eight years at the top, reckon the time is right for the Totally Boybanders.

"It's brilliant that you have all these bands coming back," said Nicky. "If I'd been out of the business for ten years I'd really miss it and I'd be dying to get back into it."

Mark added, "We know Bradley and Dane - they're really great guys." And Kian chipped in, "I'm really happy for Bradley. Ever since S Club ended he's been really keen to keep the music going. Out of everyone in his old band he was the one who seemed to really want it."

Let's hope the boys' positive vibes work for Bradley, Dane and co - the single is in the shops this week but a source close to the band told us they could get the elbow from their manager if it doesn't do well.

"Their manager Jonathan Shalit said he may not continue to represent the boys 'as a group' if the single doesn’t go top ten," he said.

Ooh, even we're beginning to feel nervous now!

'The One' is in shops now

Revealing Westlife - Internet Exclusive - 23 October 2006

With Westlife due to release their new studio album on November 20th First thought it would be an opportune time to catch up with the guys and find out whats been happening recently, how they felt when Brian McFadden left, and a look back on eight years of musical success.

Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian look set to romance us into Christmas this year with the release of The Love Album on 20th November 2006. The album is a collection of old favourites picked out by the boys and Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh. For one of the tracks, the boys team up with Delta Goodrum for a version of All out of Love. The album also includes hits like Total Eclipse of the Heart, You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, Easy and many more. Their first single, The Rose, is set for release on 6th November. Liz Frost catches up with them on their way to approve their latest video.

What have you been up to today

Nicky: Got out of bed about 11 o’clock and came into Sony to do some Interviews and we’ve got some meetings with our marketing department. We’ve just approved the final edit of the video for our brand new single. It’s in colour currently, but we’ve changed it to be black and white.

How was your recent Face to Face tour

Shane: Great! It was very long! We did a lot of dates, at the end it was quite tiring because we went to Asia and places like that. We were touring for about 6 months more or less, we did 3 months straight then we had a few weeks off then we were doing every weekend in the summer, we did 3 outdoor shows across the UK. Scotland Wales and England then we went to Asia for a 3 week tour over there. The crowd seemed to like it. We check our website and people seemed to think it was the best so far. That’s a good sign, but we have to beat that next year now.

Do you prefer touring or recording

Mark: When you’ve performed the same show so many times it becomes monotonous, but then you go into promotion and recording a new albumn then back to touring. It’s sort of half the time touring half recording.

What was the highlight

Nicky: This year we changed it up a bit. We usually do a medley. And I think on this show, we decided to do something different. We usually do one of the Jackson five, Queen, we’ve done Wham, all sorts of things. This year for a laugh we decided to try and cover a modern song, so we did a version of Don’t Cha by the Pussycat Dolls, obviously changing it to boyfriend. It really went down a storm. A little sexy routine to it. You go on the sites and the comments were that they kind of liked to see us doing Don’t Cha. It was tongue in cheek, not like we’ve done before. Also the new single You Raise me Up went down a storm aswell. I think that song came at just the right time for us. I mean, every band starts to go a bit, then Bryan left and everyone started to write us off. Then we did the Rat Pack albumn and Face to Face with You Raise Me Up, which really took off.

What made you choose the songs for the Love Album

Shane: The whole idea of the albumn was to do a tribute Love Albumn. When you’re going do an original album you have to get new material in. We had 4 or 5 songs that were decent, but they weren’t in any ways near songs like You Raise Me Up. So we said to ourselves we’ve got a standard. If we want to make an original album it has to be at a certain standard. Simon Cowell came up with the idea ‘Why don’t you do a Love Album? You’re famous for singing love songs so it’s going to suit you’ Simon had his favourites, Louis had his favourites. There are some great songs on there. The rose is a famous song, but it’s not that famous a song. It was actually Louis who chose it but Simon thought it was a great song, the perfect song to launch the album.

Nicky: There’s an interesting song on there too. There’s a song called ‘All Or Nothing’ That song was written for us 7 years ago, but Simon Cowell turned it down. That song was passed to OTown in the states and they had huge success in the States with it. We were quite gutted because we knew it was sounding very much like us. We have a bit of a laugh about it now. So we covered it on this Love Songs album. We do an acoustic version of it, it’s a lovely song.

You’ve been together 8 years, have you had any major squabbles

Kian: We bicker over stupid things, but we’ve never had a major bust up ever. We’ve got too much respect for the band to do that.

Nicky: All we’d have to do is look on Youtube at footage of us all having a laugh and it makes you forget about it.

Mark: A couple of times we were close to headbutts and kicks.

Kian: We tend to get worked up over travel, when we travel for a long time. We’ve been working very very hard for a few weeks, somebody would say something and it would be taken the wrong way. It would always be in a scenario when we haven’t been home for a while, we’ve been in eachothers faces for like 6 months really really working hard. It happened more in the earlier years than the later years, because we were younger and more feisty. Now we’re more grown up, it’s easier to say things to each other, There’s no winners when this sort of thing happens. What’s the point in rowing when we should be enjoying it?

When Bryan left, did you think it was all over

Shane: To be honest, no. For about 10 minutes we were like ‘Oh no, what’s going to happen?’ We were only like 20 days away from the first show of a 4 month tour. We started rehearsals the next day and Bryan said ‘I’m hanging up my boots lads’. We thought we were being Punk’d because MTV Punk’d had just started. Then we had a 3 hour chat about it and we were like ‘Right, what are we going to do?’ Everybody wanted to carry on so we were just like ‘Let’s do it then!’ We had a big heart to heart. Louis drove over to chat to us at 3 in the morning for 3 hours.

Nicky: Louis was worth his weight in gold. He was like ‘It doesn’t matter. There are so many more years left’. If ever there was any doubt he convinced us. Especially in the aftermath because all the press were on Bryan’s side, everyone was like It’s Robbie again, when Take That were over. They went into our financial details. Bryan was worth more because of clever investments. But they were building him up in any way they could. It really got to us. It made us even more determined to succeed.

What do you think of Take That reforming

Mark: There’s not enough Pop music around at the moment, So I think it’s great that old bands like Take That are coming back.

Kian: Most of the bands that are coming back now were around when we started off, and we’re like ‘ah now you see why we stayed together?

Will you ever break up

Kian: I don’t think we’d ever break up. We might take a break for a year or something like that but for the 4 of us to sit down in front of room full of people or on TV and say we’re finished for good. I don’t think we’d ever do that. I think we feel like we could go away for a few years and come back after that, but we’ve just had a renegotiation with the record label for another 4 albums and that’s after the next album, so there’s 5 more albums in our record contract. It depends really on how we’re seen as people. I can’t imagine us breaking up and never coming back.

Nicky: Obviously if we don’t want to do it anymore, we won’t, but the fact that we’ve signed this renegotiation; we can keep coming back and doing another album when we feel like it. I think we are at a level now, we’ve got through and survived it.

Shane: A lot of our original fans don’t like Westlife anymore, because they’ve got older and cooler and they’re going out with guys and that. If you came to one of our shows you’d be shocked, there’s Mums, Grans everything. Our average age of the show is probably 35 now. That’s the future, you know. Hopefully it will keep going.

Westlife Back Growing Calls For City Arena - 19 October 2006

EXCLUSIVE

BY ANDREW HUTCHINSON

’LIFE IN LEEDS: Westlife would love to be able to stop off in Leeds on one of their tours

THEY can claim to be the biggest arena tour act, having performed to more than two million fans.

And today Westlife backed the Yorkshire Evening Post campaign to build an entertainment complex in Leeds.

The band, who have sold 35 million albums, will be heading out on the road for their seventh arena tour next year – but the city is not on the show schedule.

The Love Tour 2007 includes stop-offs in Manchester, Birmingham and the Hallam FM Arena in Sheffield next spring.

Westlife's Shane Filan said: "Leeds is a great city especially for shopping. I have stayed at Oulton Hall before with Gillian (his wife) and we have been out in the city.

"The only thing it's missing is an arena. We would definitely want to play there without a doubt. We could do a few shows in Leeds and a few shows in Sheffield.

"The big question I suppose is the type of venue. It needs to be big enough and built well. I'm sure it would prove a big draw and make Leeds a lot more attractive to artists."

Our Leeds Needs An Arena campaign has taken a step forward with news that a draft report on the project has been presented to Leeds City Council. But more information on key issues, including possible sites and funding is needed before further progress can be made.

A final version of the report, produced by London based PMP, is expected to answer those queries and be back with the council for consideration by mid-November. It will then go before the council's executive board by mid-December.

Other famous names to back the Leeds Needs An Arena campaign include Brighouse rockers Embrace and Guiseley based jazz sensation Peter Grant.

Readers can keep up the momentum by adding their name to an online petition at
www.leedstoday.net

l Look out for an extended Westlife interview and competition in the YEP's 24seven Saturday supplement next month.

Kian & Shane Interview From Indonesian Magazine - 19 October 2006

© Thanx Mae for typing it up

Teenage Magazine, November issue

With Love, Westlife.
Kian & Shane of Westlife, were recently in Singapore for a one-night concert as part of their Face to Face Asian tour. The lads spilled the beans on keeping it fresh and going solo.

What was the reception like when you visited other Asian countries for the first time?
Kian: We went to Korea & the Philippines and it was great! Our fans in Asia seem to be more excited than fans in the UK. In Korea, they all had these coloured things (pongs pongs) and it just looked so coo. It’s great to finally be back in Asia.
Shane: It’s really great! We've all grown up wanting to do this, performing in front of huge crowds, so we really do love it.

What’s in store after this Asian tour?
Kian: We've just finished our new album, it’s called The Love Album and it’s a tribute to the ballads and love songs we enjoy. Songs such as Total Eclipse Of The Heart, You Light Up My Life, and many more! We used to sing these songs in the shower.

There are not many prominet boy bands these days, & even then, band members tend to do their own projects. Any of you guys thinking of going solo?
Kian
: No, none of us want to go solo and none of us will. It just won’t be as powerful on your own as opposed to being part of a band.
Shane: It’s too hard to go solo and it’s not fun. Now you have four men, and it’s like we're four men on a road trip.

How long do you think Westlife will last?
Shane: As you go through life, things change, you know. Family becomes more important as we grow older.
Kian: I think we'll be around for maybe 5, maybe 10 years, we don’t really know.
Shane: We don’t know how long we want to do this, probably not at 40 years old though!

Ever thought of acting? If all four of you could star in a movie, what sort of movie would it be and who would be your leading ladies?
Shane: I don’t think I would be good at it?!
Kian: Well my leading lady would be Halle Berry!
Shane: Hey how about Charlize Theron?
Kian: Oh there's just too many!

What was it like performing with Lee Hom? Any chance you might collaborate with him and sing a Mandarin song?
Kian: Lee Hom is a very nice guy! We had a very big concert in Taiwan and we got to see the fans there, & see that it’s like. We might sing in mandarin if we can learn it, but it’s pretty hard!
Shane: We'd really love to collaborate with Asian artistes, hopefully one from each part of Asia. But it’s difficult. With Lee Hom, we met and it quickly snowballed into a joint project. We don’t have any plans in the near future, but if the opportunity comes up, it'll help him & help us too!

P.S THERE'S MORE!!

On keeping it fresh
KIAN: We always come up with new ideas and we never use the same gag or trick twice. We're kind of running out of ideas but we have good people who help us come up with new ideas. Yeah we have good outside opinions,

On song choice
KIAN
: We're very comfortable with ballads. Pop songs are what makes us Westlife, so we're going to continue doing ballads.
SHANE: My favourite songs are You Raise Me Up and What Makes A Man
KIAN: This is quite difficult. I like Unbreakable, Flying Without Wings and Swear It Again. There are such so many amazing songs!
SHANE: We have become so used to singing these songs that sometimes we forget about the power of the songs.

On best experiences
KIAN: Performing at a stadium in front of 40,000 people.
SHANE: When we met the Pope and when we first won Record Of The Year!
KIAN: As time goes on, it gets harder and harder to pick just a few moments.
SHANE: But when we're sixty and we look back on Westlife, I think that will be our greatest memories!

On Singapore
KIAN: It's a very clean city, it’s a cool city. The cleanest city I’ve ever been too... But I don’t think I could live in a city. Shane and I were brought up by the sea and we couldn’t live full-time in a place not close to the ocean.
SHANE: I want to live in a golf course!!

Exclusive: Westlife Back All Saints - 19 October 2006

Kian has delivered his verdict on the Girls Aloud V All Saints battle…

Westlife have waded into the Girls Aloud/All Saints war and urged GA to keep it buttoned.

Talking to MTV UK News, Kian said, "I think Girls Aloud should shut up - that's my opinion.

"I just don't think there's any need for (bad-mouthing another band). Girls Aloud should look and learn from All Saints. They have the experience and have made amazing music."

The battle of the girl bands was sparked earlier this month when Cheryl told us All Saints' new song 'Rock Steady' sounded like a Girls Aloud tune.

"They must have looked at what's working at the minute and thought, 'We'll go that way'," she said.

All Saints responded by saying, "They are stupid little girls and we don't really give a f**k."

Westlife's representative on the matter, Kian, went on, "People who slag you off don't go on to sell even a tenth of the albums (of the band they diss). Someone will be smiling at the end of this."

We can't wait for the ensuing chart battle: Westlife's 'The Rose', All Saints' 'Rock Steady' and Girls Aloud's 'Something Kinda Oooh' are all released next month...

Delta’s The Victim In Brian And Kerry’s Split - 18 October 2006

© Thanx Joanne for typing it up and scanning the picture

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The boys try not to take sides between ex-bandmate Brian Mcfadden and Kerry Katona.

It’s been well over two years since Brian McFadden quit Westlife and the band have made an unusual replacement on their new album by bringing in Brian's girlfriend Delta Goodrem!

The Aussie singer joined the lads to record a song on The Love Album, after the Westlife manager and x-factor judge Louis Walsh came up with the idea.

"We were worried Delta and Brian wouldn’t want to but they loved it.”, says Nicky, 27.

Delta is a fantastic singer. Despite this strained relationship between Brian and Delta and his ex- Kerry katona, the boys are careful not to take sides. "We feel sorry for Delta" said Nicky, People blame her but she’s the victim in this. Meanwhile the boys have stayed in touched with Kerry. "I was texting Kerry last week," says Mark 26...Shes doing well, although she’s been in hospital. But we don’t like to read about Brian and Kerry’s lives in the paper. They’re our friends so we call them up and talk to them like any other friends.

Looking back, Nicky says, "Hindsight is a great thing. Even when Brian was in the band, we didn’t realise there was anything wrong with their marriage. Perhaps if we had we could have helped them more, but we did everything we could. We even offered to take them to counselling".

Recently, Brian was reported to be suffering from stress due to his flagging solo career. He was said to have broken down during a karaoke session and again on reality THE MATCH. "Brian couldn’t get stage fright if he tried," Nicky laughs.

Mark adds "I talked to him the other day and he was so excited about his new album. I’d be able to tell from his voice if there was something wrong with him. He’s fine"

The Westlife boys say they’ve never been happier themselves-especially in their relationships. Nicky and Shane are both married, but Kian and Mark are sick of hearing rumours they’re set to wed their partners.

Kian, who is dating Respectable actress Jodi Albert, says his family are always asking about his wedding plans after reading about them, but reckons he and Jodi are happy as they are.

He says "Her new TV series is doing really well. I’m so proud of her. Shes a great singer too."

"Will you release a duet?” asks Nicky.

"Like Kylie and Jason?" Kian laughs, as the boys break into a rendition of Especially for you.

Mark, who has a long-term boyfriend Kevin McDaid, says:"I read that I’m getting married as often as I read that Westlife are splitting up. I’m not getting married.”

But Nicky and Shane still egg on their friend to tie the knot. Nicky teases, "Oh, go on We gave you a good day out, its about time you gave us one"

Meanwhile, Westlife doting dad Shane, 26,goes soppy talking about his 14 month old daughter Nicole who’s just started to talk. He confesses: "I sing to her, but stuff like "Twinkle Twinle, little star, I don’t think she’d like the verse of You raise Me Up.” He says the rest if the band love being surrogate uncles.

"I see little Nicole and think Id love a baby”, says Kian,26,"But I’m not married yet, Its Nicky’s turn next"

Nicky admits “Id love to have kids of my own. I’m broody,” he says. "Its amazing watching Nicole. Would I want to let my children go into music? Well you let your children do what they want, unless they want to be a lap dancer."

The group haven’t been back long from their Face to Face Tour 2006 and will be embarking on a UK tour again in February and March. But this time they’re hoping to take their partners and children along.

Shane says "I was away from Nicole for a week on tour in Asia and it was hell. Its great when we get to take everyone on tour with us because we get daytimes off so there’s lots of time to spend with family.”

“We’ve all grown up in recent years, he adds, "And although we love what we do, our personal lives are the most important thing to us.”

Westlife popularity certainly doesn’t seem to be warning, The Love Album featuring the bands take on famous love songs is released on 13th November - the same day as Take That’s new album. Are the boys relishing a battle?

"They moved their release date to ours” says Shane. "But we love Take That. We got into music wanting to be like them so we’re happy.”

“I will definitely buy the album" Nicky admits, “Although not in its first week. Maybe Louis can get us a free copy!”

'Delta Is The Victim' Say Westlife - 17 October 2006

It seems Westlife think Aussie beauty Delta Goodrem isn't being treated fairly in the feud between their former bandmate Brian McFadden and his ex Kerry Katona.

"We feel sorry for Delta," Nicky Byrne told Closer magazine.

"People blame her but she's the victim in this."

The Irish boyband, who hired Delta to sing on their latest album, are keen not to take sides and say they speak to both Brian and Kerry.

Mark Feehily said: "I was texting Kerry last week. She's been doing well, although she's been in hospital. But we don't like to read about Brian and Kerry's lives in the newspapers. They're our friends so we call them up and talk to them just like other friends.

The Westlife boys also insist they didn't realise that cracks were appearing in the relationship.

"Hindsight is a great thing. Even when Brian was in the band, we didn't realise there was anything wrong with his marriage," added Nicky.

"Perhaps if we had we could have helped them more, but we did everything we could. We even offered to take them to counselling.

Mark & Nicky Interview From Indonesian Magazine - 16 October 2006

© Thanx Mae for typing it up

Westlife should win an award for being the longest lasting boyband in Brit pop history From the fresh faced boys singing tunes the likes of "Swear It Again" & "Flying Without Wings", to four grown men crooning Frank Sinatra covers and melodic songs like " You Raise Me Up ", Westlife have grown up not just physically, but musically as well.

The happily married Shane & Nicky, Kian (in a steady relationship) & Mark (who came out of the closet about his sexuality last year) were bright and chirpy at their group interviews when they were in town recently to perform at the Face to Face Asian Tour. Teens got the chance to chat with Nicky & Mark, to find out more about their growth as a band.

Teens: What's the biggest challenge you've faced trying to change the perception of Westlife being just a boyband?
Mark: Naturally, over the years, the fan base that started with us from the very beginning has grown up with us. I think many of them probably have been 15 or 16 when we started out, & that’s 7 or 8 years ago. Now they're 22 or 23 & everybody including us has grown up in this time. One of the things that we've done to show we've grown up, but wasn’t necessarily well-received in South East Asia, was the release of the Rat Pack album that we did. It actually did quite well back home & I think that's something an average 4-member boyband that is all about cheesy smiles wouldn’t have the ability to pull off. You have to have a bit more depth than that, and the album definitely showed that we're not just cheesy boyband - we're young men who can sing different type of songs.

Teens: Do you think you'd ever get too old for all this, or get sick of your job?
Mark: Well, I reckon Nicky's already too old, so he's proof that you can still do it, even if you seem too old for it! Ha ha ha!
Nicky: It’s the buzz of surviving that keeps us going. There are so many bands that have come and gone. Bands that were together when we started, like Five or Spice Girls, many of them have all come and gone. We've always had a dream that we wanted to be the band that changed things, or the normal perception of the length of time a boyband could last. Many boybands seem to only be able to last for 5 years - that's always seemed to be the cut off point. We've always known that we have the talent to succeed, & that we have the desire to succeed. The most important thing was that we, as individuals, had to make sure of, was that we didn’t fall out or become enemies. In these eight years, we've all had our arguments but we’ve never really struck each other - and succeeded. We've actually let previous tour managers go because they started getting too friendly with one particular member and started working harder for that person instead of for the band. It’s a funny business to be in, but when you have the desire to do it for so long, then it’s possible to last as long as we have. We don’t know how long it'll last, but we're just riding the wave.

Teens: Is there anything you'd be happy never to have to do again?
Nicky: wait for Mark to get out of bed!
Mark: (laughs) They have to do that quite a lot, really.

Teens: You're supposed to be releasing yet another album soon… What can we expect to hear?
Nicky: We just completed recording the album, which is due for release in November. It’s a themed album called The Love Album. Simon Cowell & our manager wanted us to do a 'love' album of cover songs of classic love songs. We have Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler or You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boon... songs like these. The album will be made up of 13 or 14 songs that we chose collectively. There are some really good songs. We actually wanted to do a full studio album with original tracks, like how we released Face To Face last year, which has been successful. It was an album that kind of kick-started our career again in many different countries. That’s the album that brought us here for our concert, and to places like Australia, which we're going to tour next year. But Simon's a good judge of the quality of original songs available out there, and there aren’t many suitable for a band like Westlife (shrugs) So it came down to us doing a cover album, and we'll promote it, tour it and then look at releasing a studio album next year.

Teens: What was your biggest reservation about doing an album of long song covers?
Mark: There are so many great love songs from the past, and we couldn’t just pick all our favourite love songs for the album. Each song that we chose had to fit into the Westlife style. Another thing to be careful about was not going down the karaoke room. It actually made it a lot easier to choose songs.
Nicky: At the same time, we're pretty sure that the songs on the album wouldn’t be mistaken for karaoke versions because its obviously Westlife singing the songs, and we'd like to think that there's certain level of professionalism in our versions of the songs, & that the songs will sound like us.

Teens: Any all time favourite love songs?
Mark: Probably anything by Prince. "Purple Rain" or something.

Teens: Will there be any duets on this album?
Mark: Actually I was just thinking about it the other day, and realised that we've done a lot of duets on our previous albums, like Mariah Carey and Diana Ross. It’s something that we like to do because it brings another voice into the equation. It’s nice to have a different voice winging with us once in a while. On this album, we recorded a track with Delta Goodrem. We've become quite good friends with her recently - we met her through Brian and we know her really well now. She's an extremely nice girl, like a princess. We're also going to record a duet with Lionel Richie, something that’s quite down our streets in terms of the type of music and fanbase.

The Enduring Matriarch Now Blooming Without Bertie - 15 October 2006

Profile shortened and only includes the parts about Nicky & Georgina

PROFILE: Miriam Ahern

There are no opinion polls for the wives of politicians. But Miriam has had to face the electorate of newspaper gossip writers more than once — and sometimes the result has been scathing. She is known to have been particularly hurt by unfavourable descriptions of her attire at her daughter Georgina’s infamous French wedding to Westlife’s Nicky Byrne.

The clear insinuation at the time was that she didn’t fit the Hello! magazine mould into which her daughter had married. But this is exactly the type of faux celebrity she rejects. She doesn’t even regard Byrne as a celebrity; he’s just the fella Georgina’s been with since their school days in Baldoyle.

Last week, the social diarists were at it again, only this time they were celebrating the birth of a new Miriam. A confident, well-dressed matriarch was the picture of stylish middle age as she appeared on the set of the Hollywood movie adapted from a book written by her other daughter, Cecelia. One daughter married to a sex-symbol pop star, the other a multi-millionairess and international bestselling author. PS, I’m over you.

Xmas Number One In Ireland Betting Odds - 14 October 2006

Three-time representative for Ireland, Johnny Logan, has emerged as the bookies' favourite to represent the Emerald Isle at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki, ahead of international stars such as Ronan Keating and Daniel O'Donnell. He is also 250/1 to be the artist on top of the Irish charts on Christmas day!

Johnny tops the odds at 4-1 to be the Irish representative in Finland next year, which would be his fifth outing at the Eurovision Song Contest after winning as a performer in 1980 and 1987, and appearing as a writer for the 1984, 1987 and 1992 entries. On Saturday night's Tubridy Night show, the singer raised hopes for a comeback by stating "you need to ask me to do it again!" He also admitted that his love of Eurovision had waned recently after the demise of the orchestra.

Johnny is flanked by a clutch of Irish musical celebrities in the bookies' rankings, with former Boyzone and Westlife stars joining him in the speculative line-up. Ronan Keating, who co-hosted the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest, comes in third on odds of 8-1.

Brian McFadden, who wrote the Irish Eurovision Song Contest entry in 2004 with Jonathan Shortan, is on 12-1 odds alongside Keith Duffy. McFadden's entry, If my world stopped turning, was sung by Chris Doran in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest final, where it won only 7 points and finished 23rd out of 24.

Shane Lynch is tipped as a 16-1 shot, with former Irish chart starlet Samantha Mumba eighth favourite on odds of 20-1 to represent Ireland. The Conway Sisters, who came sixth on ITV's The X-Factor in the UK, join her on the same odds. Former Eurovision stars are not overlooked, with Dana (1970) on 14-1 and Dickie Rock (1966) on 40-1. The full odds can be found at the end of this article.

Betting in Ireland for the Chistmas number one chart position has Ronan Keating and Brian McFadden locked together on odds of 33/1 along with former two-time Eurovision Song Contest participant for the United Kingdom, Sir Cliff Richard. Johnny Logan is rated as a long shot at 250/1. Favourites at 4/1 are the recently reunited British boyband from the 1990s, Take That, with McFadden's former band, Westlife second favourites at 7/1.

4-1 for Johnny Logan

7-1 for Westlife
7-1 Take That

8-1 for Lucia Evans
8-1 for Ronan Keating
8-1 for Daniel O'Donnell
10-1 for Linda Martin
12-1 for Brian McFadden
12-1 for Keith Duffy

When I was 16, my nan was diagnosed with breast cancer and it shattered my world. She got the right treatment and has been in remission for seven years now. It’s important to raise awareness and raise money for research - and people can do that with a new pin they can buy in Tesco. All the money goes to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

In your sitcom Respectable, you only wear your underwear. Is that weird?
People imagine the programme is seedier than it actually is. The cheekiest thing about the show is the costumes. It took a long time to get used to them. There was a lot to think about - pulling stockings on, tights underneath, putting your own knickers on plus the French knickers and the basques and bras. People think I’m scantily clad but I felt I was wearing a lot because it was so much work putting on so many layers.

Did you enjoy doing Respectable?
I loved it - I’ve never done a pure comedy before and the writing was fantastic. It was one of the best jobs I’ve had. There are rumours we’ll get a second series because the viewing figures have been amazing. I’d love to do more. The comedy was so quick-witted that I felt privileged to be part of it.

Do lingerie companies send you free knickers now?
No, they haven’t. I was hoping Agent Provocateur would send me a few little bits, ha ha. I had some nice things to wear but, after spending eight hours a day in them, I couldn’t wait to put my tracksuit on. I’m not good at blagging things. Other people will phone a designer to ask to borrow a dress if they’re going to a premiere but I feel too cheeky doing that.

What’s the best freebie you’ve received?
I can’t remember one particular thing but when you go to parties or premieres you’ll often get a gift bag. If you’re a girl, you’ll get lots of different beauty products in there. I love those. Any kind of product or make-up like that I love. My boyfriend goes mad because I spend so much money on crap, so I like freebies like that.

You were in a band, Girl Thing, managed by Simon Cowell. Do you still see him?
Yes. My boyfriend’s in Westlife and Simon Cowell is their A&R man so I still bump into him. Most of the time, I agree with the things he says to those X Factor contestants. He doesn’t say things to be nasty - he says it because he’s got years of experience and knows what the business can be like.

Were you relieved when Girl Thing split up?
In a way. I’m so grateful now things happened the way they did. I was in this manufactured band at 15, taken out of school, signed to a record label and flown around the world for two years. It was amazing but I hit 17 and thought: ‘I don’t want to live the rest of my life in a manufactured band.’ It finished because the girls didn’t get on - there was no other reason.

Was it stressful being in a band with girls who hated each other?
It really was. I was lucky because I got on with everyone but there were a couple of disagreements that were amazingly petty. Some of the girls didn’t realise what a fantastic opportunity they had but it opened a lot of doors for me.

Do you listen to Westlife CDs at home?
No, ha ha ha. I listen to them enough at their concerts, so I don’t put them on out of choice.

How do their fans treat you?
They’ve been great. I’m guessing but I think they like me because I had my own career - it wasn’t like the only time they saw me, I was prancing about at a party on Kian’s arm. A lot of them know I’m quite independent and they respect that.

You were on Channel 4’s California Dreaming reality show. Why did you leave early?
I was quite angry with the producers because they didn’t make it clear why I left. I was told I would go to America for six weeks of acting training. Shortly after I got there, I found out one of my best friends, who I’d known since I was ten, had died in a car accident. I needed to go to her memorial service. It was a tough time. I landed a movie when I was out there but didn’t want to do it. When you lose someone like that, you realise there are more important things in life.

I guess that’s put you off doing reality TV.
The thing was it wasn’t supposed to be a reality TV show - it was supposed to be a documentary. They told us we were going to get training, get dialect coaching and go to agents. For any actress to get that experience would be a great opportunity but, as soon as we got out there, things were really quiet. We got one acting lesson in two weeks, one dialect lesson in two weeks and then they started moving cameras into the house...

What was the last thing you bought on eBay?
A Balenciaga handbag - I’m such a woman. It wasn’t cheap but it’s lovely and I couldn’t get that colour here.

What’s the best thing about being a celebrity couple?
If there’s anything good about being a celebrity couple, it’s that we can jump queues but even then I get embarrassed doing it. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

You and Kian have been together a while. Are you planning a big Jordan-esque wedding?
Never. It was great for Jordan but it’s not who I am. I would love a beautiful wedding in the next couple of years. There’d be no big Cinderella carriage for me. I just want something elegant.

Westlife Connection Gives Oliver Show A Family Twist! - 12 October 2006

A young Shane Filan and Damien Ginty who played the Artful Dodger in the 1994 production of “Oliver”. Now Shane’s nephew Killian is playing the same role in the show at the Hawk’s Well next week.

Luke Devaney as Oliver and Cillian Filan as the Artful Dodger, gear up for the opening of the Sligo Fund Company's spectacular production of 'Oliver', which opens at The Hawk's Well Theatre on Sunday next. Pic Carl Brennan

Twelve years ago, Westlife star, Shane Filan donned his top hat and wooed the audience with his portrayal of the Artful Dodger.

And now more than a decade later, his nephew, Killian Filan is set to take the starring role of the loveable rogue in the upcoming performance of the Sligo Fund Company's "Oliver".

Director, Mary Mac Donagh said that stars are already beginning to shine through in the production, with a few young actors that "could go the whole way".

And to support these budding careers, the Sligo Fund Company will be making a scholarship available to the most talented youth, which will fund their attendance at a suitable national youth drama workshop next year.

The musical will run for seven nights at the Hawk's Well Theatre from Sunday, bringing a whole new generation of youth to this celebration of 18th century London, with the part of Oliver to be jointly acted by Luke Devaney and James Fallon and the Artful Dodger shared by Killian Filan and Christian McLeod.

Brothers Drew and Rory Maitland will alternate as Noah Claypole.

Among the old timers will be John Caheny, taking on the central role of Fagin while the ill-fated Nancy is played by Olivia O'Hanlon.

The scheming duo of Mr Bumble and Mrs Corney fall to Damien Brennan and MariAnne Fahy, while the undertaking Sowerberrys are Kieran O'Doherty and Ursula Smullen.

The glowering Bill Sykes will be played by Gerry Ryan and Mrs Bedwin by Pam Greenaway.

Finally, two of Sligo's longest serving lovers of the stage, Joe Meehan and Lionel Gallagher have the cameo roles of Mr Brownlow and Dr Grimwig.

"While working with boys can be troublesome, these have really been a great bunch of lads," said Mary.

She added that Sunday night's performance will be the first time that many of them will have acted in a large scale production, however, Mary said that nerves on the night will be replaced with a feeling of "walking on air".

She added that there were slight differences to this year's performance in comparison to that 12 years ago."Last time it was held in the Factory Performance Space and it looked like a real workhouse.

"However, this time we have a big set in the Hawk's Well and I suppose it would be more stylised," she said.

The show will run until Sunday, October 22 at 8pm with matinee performances on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22 at 3pm.

Tickets are priced at €18/15 are available from 071 9161526.

Westlife Are Back - 10 October 2006

Star guests - Living the Westlife

The heart-throbs release their much anticipated new single 'The Rose', plus find out if they're performing at a venue near you

Westlife are the biggest vocal boy band in the world and their successes to date are unrivaled.

The new album

November 13th will see Westlife release their 8th album, 'The Love Album'. Following on from the enormous success they achieved last year with the release of their Number 1 album 'Face To Face', Westlife return with a new album consisting of 11 of the most classic and memorable love songs of all time.

The album will be preceded by the single 'The Rose', which is set for release on the 6th of November.

Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian look set to bring some romance to Christmas this year with a selection of their favourite love songs that they personally chose.

The opening track and first single 'The Rose' sets the tone for the album.  Originally a huge hit for Bette Midler in the US in 1980, it now looks set to emulate the success here in the UK.  On another of the album's many highpoints the guys teamed up with Australian singing star Delta Goodrem to record a version of 'All Out Of Love'.

Westlife have experienced phenomenal success from the start of their career dominating the UK music scene for eight years. Having sold over 35 million albums worldwide with six multi-platinum albums in the UK, 12 UK number ones and countless awards including two BRITs and an MTV Europe Award. 'The Rose' marks Westlife's unprecedented return reaffirming their reign at the top.

Record breakers:

  • 11 November 2000, Westlife equalled the record set by the Beatles, with their first seven singles scoring the 'Most Consecutive Number Ones'
  • They also hold the record for the 'Most Entries at Number 1 by a Debuting Act'
  • They've made 8 albums, with six multi-platinum albums in the UK alone
  • Having sold over 35million albums worldwide
  • November 2002 saw Westlife set a new Guinness World Record for the 'Most Personal Appearances' by a pop band in 36 hours (Westlife visited Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Manchester and London to promote their Greatest Hits album Unbreakable) which entered the album charts at number 1 (and was top ten in over 16 countries).

Westlife history

In 1998 Shane, Kian, Mark were in an unknown Sligo pop group named IOU, who made their debut at The Point - Dublin's biggest pop venue.

A local TV show brought them to the attention of pop svengali, Louis Walsh, who hired them to support the US band, Backstreet Boys. It was their biggest gig by far, and a long way from the school show Grease where Shane, Kian and Mark sang together for the first time. After the show, Louis was impressed. He said "I can't see you up there and not manage you!" recalls Shane.

Louis introduced new members Bryan, fresh from stage school, and Nicky, an ex football apprentice at Leeds United, to the ranks of the newly-named Westside.

Signed to RCA by Pop Idol's very own Simon Cowell, Westside were renamed Westlife, after learning of other American acts with their moniker.

Groomed as natural successors to Boyzone, the quintet's debut single 'Swear It Again' was a highly predictable Irish and UK chart-topper. The follow-ups repeated the feat when they entered the UK singles chart at number one. 'Flying Without Wings' gave them their third number one in October 1999.

Topping the charts with 'Fool Again', a duet with Mariah Carey on a cover version of Phil Collins' 'Against All Odds', and 'My Love', amongst other hits, they had soon notched up seven number ones.

It was in March 2004 that Brian quit the band to spend more time with his family at the time, leaving the band as a four. However, Westlife have dominated the UK music scene for over 8 years.

Face To Face With Westlife - 6 October 2006

They're all in their late twenties and one is even a happy, nappy-changing dad, but you can still call Westlife "a boy band" and get away with it.

That's what Prime Time Morning discovered in an exclusive interview with the Irish group who were in Singapore for their "Face to Face" album tour.

When asked about being called a 'boy band' Westlife's Kian Egan cheekily stated "just don't call us a girl band".

At the same time, he was serious in maintaining that the group doesn't find it offensive being called a 'boy band' since that is indeed what they are. "We started off ... we were young at that time, we're abit older now but we still do the same thing, we stand on the stage, sing songs, we do dance routines... we're a pop band."

Egan went on to say that "we don't really care what people call us because when people have something negative to say about Westlife it's because they don't really like Westlife and we're not really interested in those people..."

Westlife which is touring Asia with the launch of 'Face To Face', says the album is a collection that has their best material so far.

Speaking on Prime Time Morning, one part of the quartet, Shane Filan said, "this album really says what Westlife is all about" and the single "You Raise Me Up" which comes from the album "is exactly the type of music we want to sing", he adds.

Nicky Byrne also believes that release of "You Raise Me Up" is giving Westlife a kick-start again, opening up new markets and re-opening older markets, which is part of the reason why the group is touring Asia right now.

The 28-year-old also revealed that "it's always nice to go back to Asia, and our fans in Asia are up there as the best in the world".

And the fact that the fan base has matured along with the band, is a reason why Mark Fehily feels the music has changed too, becoming more adult and contemporary in its approach.

Overall, the members of Westlife feel little has changed for them even though one is father to a little girl and another is married, with a father-in-law who just so happens to be the British Prime Minister.

But Byrne would only reveal that that having a VIP in-law is "good fun", describing him as a hard-working, "nice guy ... very down-to-earth for the job he holds".

Still, having family makes touring difficult as Filan revealed, and that may have an impact on just how long Westlife will continue as a band.

But for now, the group who say they take things a year at a time, have no plans to change anything.

And that includes taking back a fifth member who left Westlife some three years ago.

Byrne who admitted that the loss of Bryan McFadden was a difficult time, also said the group had managed to survive that and "go from strength to strength, which is a big deal for us".

And when asked if the group would consider taking McFadden back, Egan said "we will never close the door on that one... but we don't see it happening, realistically... in the near future."

He also said that Westlife has since worked very well as a four piece, and that "if it's not broken then why try to fix it".

Kian Loves Me being a 'Prostitute’” - 3 October 2006

© Thanx Jen for typing this up J

"Jodi Albert talks about playing a hooker in new comedy Respectable - and why she's waiting two years to get married

Actress Jodi Albert feared her Westlife singer boyfriend Kian Egan might be shocked t her role as a prostitute in a new TV sitcom - but he loves it! The former Hollyoaks actress, 23, is starring in hit Channel Five show Respectable, which is based in a suburban brothel.

She says: 'I was nervous at the screening, but Kian laughed from start to finish - he's my fiercest critic so when he liked it I knew it was good. He didn't mind me playing a prostitute because it's a comedy.'

Stunning Jodi, who plays tart-with-a-heart Hayley, wars stockings, suspenders and basques in the show, which follows the lives of the girls who work there.

The show drew criticism from women's rights campaigners before it went on air, for treating prostitution as comedy.

But Jodi says: 'The complaint happened before anyone had even seen it. Many people think it might be controversial, but then they watch it and find it funny and light-hearted. A lot of comedy is based on slightly dark themes, like Little Britain for example, which as some pretty extreme characters.'

And thankfully for Jodi, her parents agree with her. 'My family have been very supportive,' she says. 'After seeing Respectable they were quoting lines from the show. My mum loved it - she couldn't stop laughing.'

Of course Jodi's real love life is much more straightforward than that of her character. She is madly in love with Kian, 26, whom she's planning to marry in two years.

She adds: 'Our relationship is going really well, Westlife are about to release a new album, so Kian has been very busy. There are no wedding plans yet - people are so desperate to marry us off! We will get married but not for a couple of years. I want to be able to plan a nice wedding.'

The daredevil pair are so inseparable, they've even done a parachute jump together. 'It was Kian's idea to do it,' admits Jodi. 'I only joined him at the last minute. It was amazing, like flying - it was like nothing else I've ever done. When we both landed we just hugged each other.'

Jodi will return to Hollyoaks next month for a couple of guest appearances as her character, Debbie Dean.

She adds: 'It will be nice to be back but I don't plan to rejoin full time."

“I Want To Be The Next Louis Walsh” - 3 October 2006

Westlife’s Kian Egan hated saying “no” on X-Factor but now he wants to be a manager.

WESTLIFE STAR KIAN Egan’s experience as an X-Factor judge has made him want to manage pop bands.

The 26 year old, who was on Louis Walsh’s panel for boot camp hopefuls, admits he found it painful to shatter people’s dreams. But he’s still determined to follow in his manager Louis’ footsteps.

He tells closer: “I’ve been thinking about managing pop bands, so this was a terrific opportunity to learn.”

“I know Westlife won’t last forever and managing would be a great career move. Louis knew I was interested so he asked me to help on X-Factor.”

But while he’s used to breaking the hearts of Westlife fans, Kian – who’s engaged to ex-Hollyoaks star Jodi Albert – admits it was a different story doing it on the show.

He says: “There were so many talented people. It was really hard to choose.”

“There were a lot of tears and people asking me what they’d done wrong when they didn’t make it. I know it’s a tough industry to crack so I really felt for them.”

But there were some high points during judging too: “Some of the acts were very entertaining, but not for the right reasons! There was a pair of hilarious scary twins.”

But the pin-up won’t be hanging up his microphone for management any time soon.

He said: “I’ve no intention of quitting Westlife – there’s a few more years in us yet.”

X Factor Bootcamp News! - 2 October 2006

Article shortened and only includes the parts that mention Kian…

It’s Bootcamp time! 180 acts battle for only 21 spaces, to get through to the next stage of the competition…but there’s trouble afoot and it’s all change!

Simon, accompanied by pop singer Sinitta is looking after the 16 – 24’s; Louis, is with the Groups and is joined by Westlife star Kian Egan and vocal coach Yvie Burnett; and Sharon presides over the Over 25s category along with vocal coach Mark Hudson and Record Company Executive Adrian Williams.

It seems Louis is not happy either: “I am dreading today, I have got the worst category but it is my job to make the most of it, I am determined to do that”. He must have seen in coming! Louis fears become reality as group after group failed to deliver the goods. Louis, Yvie and Kian are feeling the pain, “I saw no star acts there, it is not looking good, we better hope the afternoon improves”.

With the mood picking up with the acts and the quality improving Louis is left decidedly smug at the end of day one “I thought this was going to be the hardest job of our lives but I actually think we have a really strong category now” with Kian quipping, “you could even win again this year Louis!”.

Kian Is The Love Of My Westlife (Jodi Interview) - 1 October 2006

EXCLUSIVE Hollyoaks Jodi tells why she WON'T wear sexy basque for her superstar fella ..And he's not even jealous when I dress like THIS for work

By Jon Wise

GORGEOUS Jodi Albert is every fella's fantasy in saucy basque and suspenders - but her Westlife lover Kian Egan doesn't even get to see her in the sexy gear.

The former Hollyoaks beauty sends temperatures soaring with her provocative undies as hooker Hayley in TV sitcom Respectable.

But she declares: "I certainly wouldn't wear them outside as they are too revealing. I spend so long wearing them for filming that I wouldn't want to keep them - they remind me too much of work."

Amazingly, superstar singer

Kian doesn't mind. And it's a tribute to the strength of the couple's love that he isn't the least bit jealous at millions of male viewers ogling his scantilyclad girlfriend surrounded by sex toys.

Jodi, 23, giggles: "Whenever I speak to him on my mobile at lunchtime, he wants to know what I'm wearing, whether it's stockings, short skirts or high heels.

"Some of the basques are absolutely beautiful, more Agent Provocateur than Ann Summers.

"I eat lunch in them between takes and sit there in my French knickers. But nobody bats an eyelid because they're so used to seeing me waft around in them on the set."

Jodi, who has been dating hunky Kian for six years, adds: "He knows that wearing revealing gear in this series is part of the deal.

"But he's not jealous. He feels flattered that other men might fancy me. Our relationship is too strong for him to feel insecure about me.

"He came to a screening of the show and thought it was fantastic. He told me I looked great."

In her Five show, Jodi's character comforts bumbling, married Michael - played by Justin Edwards, 34 - who is infatuated but too polite to ask her for sex at the Debonnaire, a "respectable" suburban brothel.

Cheating is all part of the plot but the real-life relationship between brunette Jodi and X-Factor mentor Kian, 26, is rock solid. They share a £1.4million love-nest in south west London.

"You have to have trust when you're with someone in this industry," says Jodi - voted sexiest female at the British Soap Awards last year. "If there were the slightest doubt about each other's loyalty we wouldn't be together.

"We spend long periods apart through our work but Kian and I aren't the types to be unfaithful. It's not in either of us to do that.”

But in her most revealing interview to date, Jodi tells The People that she has no plans to wed.

"People have been saying we're getting married," says the actress. "But we're not ready for that yet. Both of us have been too busy to even think about weddings.

"We don't want children yet, either. Our Maltese puppy Prince is our surrogate child. He's so gorgeous that we love him as if he really were a baby."

Jodi was 15 when she was introduced to Kian in 1999 by music mogul Simon Cowell - who promptly warned off the Westlife star. At the time Jodi was with Cowell's band Girl Thing on the same record label as Kian. She recalls: "Simon introduced us at Party In The Park. The other boys in Westlife lined up to shake hands first but it was Kian I was waiting for. I'd seen pictures and thought he was cute.

"When he shook my hand, we held each other's gaze for several seconds. But suddenly I felt really shy, took my hand away and turned on my heels.

"Kian asked Simon, 'Wow, who was that?' To which Simon replied, 'No darling, not that one. You can't have her'. Simon was very protective because I was too young to get involved with anyone.

"Kian and I kept in touch but I was really jealous when I was introduced to his girlfriends.

"I hated them because I knew I was too young to be with him and they were with the guy I wanted to be with.

But Kian was right not to go near me. He was a gentleman and I respect him so much for that."

Four years later in May 2003, Kian finally made his feelings known.

"He was doing a concert in Manchester and asked me to come to see him," says Jodi. "I told him my sister was with me and he said, 'Cool, bring her with you'.

"After the concert, he told me, 'I really want to be with you. It feels right now'. I'd been going out with my girlfriends and was having fun being single but he just blew me away. I always knew we'd end up together."

Two months later, the couple jetted to Barbados for a romantic holiday. "That's when he told me he loved me," says Jodi. "I told him I felt the same. It was so perfect, a beautiful moment. I'd never felt anything like it - I just loved the way he loved me.

"No one had ever cuddled me or pampered me the way he did. He's so grounded and earthy and I couldn't be with anyone arrogant.

"I've always been fussy with men. Before Kian I'd only had one serious boyfriend. I tend not to givemy heart away, but when I do it's completely.

"No matter where I went or who I met, Kian was always in the back of my mind.

"Now we miss each other totally when we're apart. He recently went on a surfing holiday with one of his closest friends f rom Ire - land. He'd only been away for a week when he told me he couldn't wait to get back home - not because he wasn't having a good time but because he missed me so much.

"He's very romantic. He'll bring me bunches of roses because he knows I love them."

Jodi shot to fame as Hollyoaks honey Debbie Dean and went on to guest star in Casualty before landing the role of Hayley.

She says: "There's nothing dirty or tacky about this series, just comic scenarios. They certainly made Kian laugh, anyway."

Jodi is now filming Brit flick Popcorn with ex-EastEnder Jack Ryder and model Sophie Anderton. Whatever the role, Jodi knows she can always count on Kian's support.

"He's very proud of me," she says with a smile of contentment.

Respectable concludes on Five this Wednesday at 10.30pm.

“The Rose” Lyrics - 1 October 2006

The Rose

Some say love it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love it is a hunger
An endless, aching need
I say love it is a flower,
And you it’s only seed.

It’s the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance

It’s the one who won’t be taken,
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long.
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong.

Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love,
In the spring, becomes the rose.
