New Diary From The Road Entry - 31 January 2007

Shane has sent an update on what the band have been doing recently and what's in-store for them.

Shane's Diary From The Road

Hey there

Hope you’re all very well. We’ve been enjoying a few weeks off since Christmas, relaxing and grabbing a bit of peace and quiet, which has been really great, and now we’re back in the swing of things, gearing up to release ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ next month.

Last week we were busy doing interviews and shoots for various magazines and radio stations, as well as performing at the Childline Concert in Dublin on Sunday, which was a really special show for us – was great to see lots of familiar faces in the crowd.

This week we’re in Sligo rehearsing for the tour. We had some amazing feedback from you guys on the new stuff we tried out for last year’s tour, and we think you’re going to be really impressed with what we’ve got up our sleeves for this one!

Catch you soon
Shane

It's A Look Of Delight That Is Unmistakable - 31 January 2007

As Westlife's Nicky Byrne and wife Georgina hit the town after Sunday night's Childline concert, the singer radiated paternal pride.

Look closely, and the barely noticeable bump beneath Georgina's designer top explains it all.

The normally washboard-flat tummy betrays the merest hint that the Taoiseach's daughter is due to give birth to twins this summer. A noted gym bunny the Westwife qualified as a fitness instructor two years ago Georgina has been easing up in her workouts.

But on her still-slim physique, pregnancy has only served to enhance her curves to their best advantage.

Whether her other half will look as lively when the 3am feeds kick in during the summer is anybody's guess...

Joanne’s Childline Concert Review - 31 January 2007

Thanx Joanne for sharing your review with us all and Westlife Fanatic VIP!

I jumped out of bed at half nine and was delighted the day had finally come, in 12 hours I would be watching the lads! I had my breakfast and spent an hour and half getting ready (have to look good for the lads :P). At 12 o'clock my dad dropped me and my mum at the place where we had to meet the bus which was taking us to the concert, I was so excited! There wasn’t many on the bus, only about 8 of us...lol! We left at 1pm, The journey was long but we stopped on the way up to go into a shop. When we got back onto the bus he said next stop THE POINT!! Yay! And we headed off on the rest of our journey.

We finally arrived at The Point just past 4pm. I jumped out off the bus, barely listening to the driver who was trying to explain where to meet him after the concert! lol! When I got out there were people selling cowboy hats and hotdogs. I noticed a big gang of girls waiting at a gate outside the point, next thing they all started to scream and wave up at a window so I ran over to see if it was our lads! lol! But when I got over there they started to sing McFly songs so I went away again... lol! It was quite early so me and my mum went for a walk around first, we came back at half 4. I took a picture of the billboard outside saying "Childline" and started to queue up. There wasn’t many in front of us, only a few very annoying McFly fans...lol! It was freezing cold and the doors wasn’t going to be opened till half 6. Then the McFly fans started singing well shouting their songs REALLY loud and one said "When Westlife come on and sing the Rose, I'll be like put on the entertainment"  (angry)

As the crowd started to get bigger the queue was moved up. The last ten minutes felt like hours and it was starting to rain. Finally the doors opened and everyone ran!! When I got inside I got something to eat and bought a programme. Then I went to my seats and to no surprise they were way back...lol! There was music playing and I knew it was getting closer!

Finally just after 8pm Brian and Stephen walked on stage and shouted "HELLO DUBLIN"!! I started screaming and couldn’t believe it was Brian again! He looked really good and seemed so happy! They started calling out the names of the acts that were going to be on stage later and then it came to Brian's turn to announce Westlife! He said "And we have Westlife, I don’t know who they are but they are suppose to be really big in China" lol. He kept having to say it over again then because the people who were recording the show for TV wasn’t happy! Then he got bored and started singing "Cheerios, Cheerios, Cheerios!' lol because it was supported by Cheerios.

The show began and McFly were first on, everyone stood up which didn’t help because I was at the back...lol...but I didn’t mind because I didn’t go to see them especially after what they said about Westlife! But the women beside me were getting very annoyed because their daughters couldn’t see so they left in the first song!

After McFly it was Matt Willis, I thought he was good and seemed really nice. Then Brian and Stephen came back on stage and announced it was time for a break on the TV programme. Brian started messing then with one of the stage men, telling him to take he wire and get off the stage! lol! Then he said hi to Molly and Lilly in the audience, I couldn’t see them though! He said there were asleep and told them to wake up...lol!

Then it was on with the show. Lil' Chirs came on, he was alright, very loud kind of! lol! Then an Irish girl group lady Nada came on and sang one song. After them it was Shayne Ward. The crowd went mad for him and I thought he was very good. He sang No Promises, That's my goal and his new song! He got the crowd going and by this time everyone was really excited. Streetwize were after him followed by Greg Ryan from Zoo I think who sang a lovely song.

Brian came back on stage with Stephen to introduce the Sugababes. Although they weren’t ready.... so he started singing Push the Button and doing a dance which was really fun because they came on stage then...lol! The Sugababes were really good I thought and like Shayne Ward got the crowd really excited.

When they were finished Brian came back on stage on his own. He started messing around for a bit and went over to a group of fans in the front row. He said to one of them “why do you have a 'L' on your t-shirt, are you a learner fan who hasn’t learnt how to scream really loud yet” and everyone started laughing, then he goes “oh you are a Westlife fan, that’s great and Nicky's your favourite, and you miss me...aww thanks!” lol! Then he introduced G4 who came on to sing with Stephen. They sang No matter what, which sounded really cool.

Then G4 left the stage and Stephen went back over to Brian.....it was finally time for Westlife!!! I kind of go blank from here because I got so excited… lol! I was shaking and the crowd started screaming ‘WESTLIFE’! As Brian and Stephen were talking on the stage the crowd started to shout 'WESTLIFE' and stamp their feet and clap their hands. It got louder and louder and when Brian heard it he went "Who do you want?" and they shouted back WESTLIFE!! and he kept saying then for a while "Who do you want?" with the crowd shouting WESTLIFE back! I got it on my phone and it sounds really cool but it felt so weird shouting back to Brian Westlife when he asked who we wanted...lol!

Finally the four boys walked on stage and the crowd went mad! Everyone stood up and was screaming! They started to sing “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” and I was delighted, it sounded so amazing live!! Can’t wait to hear it again on the tour, afterwards I think Kian started talking... I was too excited to remember... lol and he told us it’s going to be there next single! Yay!

Then they sang “The Rose” and they sounded so amazing on it, it was followed by “You Raise Me Up” and Shane made the crowd sing! After that I think they sang “Flying Without Wings” and I just love that song live, everyone was waving their arms in the air singing!

Then they said it was time for their last song of the night, “World Of Our Own”, Yay!! They told the crowd to get on their feet and dance and clap their hands! It was so much fun and at the end all the other acts came out and balloons and glitter started to fall from the ceiling! When “World Of Our Own” had ended they all left the stage and I jumped up to see Shane one last time!! I'm not sure whether Brian was on the stage or whether he was singing because I couldn’t see a thing with all the balloons and everything... lol!

Overall it was a brilliant concert and the lads done an amazing job of all their songs, they looked gorgeous as ever in their sexy black suits! We made our way out and tried to find the bus. On the way back to the bus I bought a Westlife picture. Then a black bus pulled up in the traffic and loads of girls ran over to it screaming, I didn’t know who was in it but someone shouted McFly so I kept walking, lol! Then one of them inside the bus pulled down his trousers and the crowd went mad!

Anyway back on the bus we started the long journey home with a very sore throat! lol! Roll on next year!!!

Wed A Shaneful Idea That Is - 31 January 2007

I THOUGHT JORDAN and PETER ANDRE had cornered the market in tacky weddings — but SHANE RICHIE could give them a run for their money when he weds dancer CHRISTIE GODDARD in August.

The former Daz ad, er, star, has landed a megabucks deal for his big day with a downmarket glossy mag and has asked Irish warblers WESTLIFE and ex-SPANDAU BALLET singer TONY HADLEY to perform.

But the privilege for singing the tune for the first dance, at a venue yet to be confirmed, has fallen to Shane’s chum ROBBIE WILLIAMS. He has been asked by the former EastEnder to perform his anthem Angels for an expected 600 guests.

Can’t wait for my invite ...

It's Partner Time For Westlife Boys - 30 January 2007

THE stars continued to shine at the Childline aftershow party as they stepped out in style.

The Westlife wives and partners dazzled on the arms of their pop star other halves.

Oozing class, Gillian Filan, Georgina Byrne and Jodi Albert hit Lillies Bordello.

Actress Jodi was the first to impress on Sunday night when she arrived in a sexy silver dress clutching her boyfriend Kian's hand.

Blonde babe Gillian - mum to 18-month-old Nicole - looked fantastic as did Georgina whose baby bump could be spotted in her wrapover electric blue dress.

One onlooker said: "The Westlife Wags just seem to get even more gorgeous every year. They all looked stunning and carried themselves with class."

Gay singer Mark Feehily's boyfriend Kevin McDaid even impressed in the style stakes.

But also catching more than a few glances was model Glenda Gilson - her mini kilt showing off her long legs to perfection.

Childline Parties 'Banned' - 30 January 2007

SUPPORT acts performing at tonight's Childline concert have been banned from partying with the show's stars.

Westlife, Shayne Ward, The Sugarbabes and McFly will enjoy a special VIP aftershow party in Lillie's Bordello - away from support acts.

Organisers are desperate to avoid a repeat of last year's aftershow controversy when X Factor loser Rowetta Satchell launched a vicious verbal attack on Shayne Ward.

Last night an insider revealed how special security measures were in place to protect the big-name acts who had given their time for such a great cause.

She said: "Last year Rowetta really let herself down with her behaviour.

"She shocked passers-by at the aftershow bash as she lay on the street, clutching a drink and cigarette.

"These guys were walking past and she kept shouting out, 'Oh, you're gorgeous. Get your willy out. Show us your willy.

"It was really embarrassing. Then she started to pull her top down as if she was about to bare her breasts. But thankfully she stopped just short of doing that.

"So only the A-list stars will be admitted to the VIP area this time."

The boozed-up singer then went into the nightclub and targeted Westlife hunk Shane Filan for her next outburst.

She grabbed the shocked star and shouted: "That Shayne Ward is a b***ard. He's crap. He should never have won the X Factor."

Tonight's concert is expected to raise EUR280,000 for Childline and will be televised on RTE 2 on Sunday, February 18, at 4.30pm.

Doors will open at 7.00pm, and fans should note that no queuing at The Point will be permitted before 6.00pm.

You're All Stars At Childline Charity Fun(d)fare - 29 January 2007

THOUSANDS of teenyboppers lifted the roof off Dublin's Point last night - and raised over €250,000 into the bargain - as they screamed for their pop idols at the annual Cheerios Childline Concert.

Top-billing went to perennial tween favourites Westlife who, along with former X Factor winner Shayne Ward and boyband McFly, whipped the crowd into a deafening frenzy.

And more than two years since his highly-publicised break with Westlife, former band member Brian McFadden also put in an appearance.

He joined another boyband alumnus, Boyzone's Stephen Gately, as master of ceremonies.

Brian had earlier done a soundcheck with his former bandmates fanning speculation of a once-off reunion.

The event celebrated its 10th birthday last night and, after a decade of shows, has raised almost €2.2m for the children's helpline.

Last night's performance alone is estimated to have generated more than €280,000 for the cause.

Previous acts to have played at the event include Robbie Williams, Girls Aloud, All Saints, Brian McFadden, Sugababes, Boyzone and Busted. All acts donate their services free of charge as do organisers and the Point Theatre.

The concert will be televised on RTE2 on February 18.

Childline 2007 Tonight! - 28 January 2007

WESTLIFE

THE ‘Lifers have faithfully performed at the Childline concerts every year since the star-studded even begun.

“It’s something that’s always in our diary every year. Regardless of where we are in the world, we always have to make sure we are available for Childline,” crooner Kian explains.

In fairness, the lads could sell it out all on their own but the addition of other top acts to the bill ensure the show is always a resounding success.

With 14 British number ones Westlife have had the most chart-topping singles in Britain behind only Elvis and The Beatles.

The boys Have sold out 95 concerts in Ireland and have just released their eighth album prior to a whopping eight-date stint at The Point in April.

Everyone who’s going to see Westlife tonight, have a great time and enjoy the concert! For us that can’t go, hopefully we will have new pictures of the lads!

... And Bri Jets In For Childline - 27 January 2007

BRIAN McFadden jetted into Dublin last night to be reunited with his Westlife bandmates at the Childline gig.

The 26-year-old will share the stage with his old pals for the first time since he quit the group three years ago.

But the star will NOT be singing with the band as he is hosting the charity gig at the Point tomorrow.

Dubliner Brian said: "It's going to be great to see the lads again but I'll be introducing their performance - not singing with them.

"We'll definitely go out after the gig and have a few beers together. It will be a big reunion."

Brian is hosting the event with Ronan Keating while Westlife, Shayne Ward and the Sugababes will perform.

He added: "I'm very proud to be hosting the Childline show because I performed in it with Westlife and when I launched my solo career."

Westlife will treat fans to five songs at the climax of the show. Singer Kian Egan said: "It is a big night for us because it's Childline's 10th birthday.

"It's going to be strange being on stage with Brian again even though he is not performing with us.

"It will almost be like the old days. We can't wait."

Riding On A Crest Of A Wave - 27 January 2007

Westlife's Kian praises SIRF at calendar launch

Cian Egan and Allan Mulrooney pictured with Santa at the launch of the SIRF calendar.

By Maria Tracey

Unbelievable. One word summed up the achievement of Allan Mulrooney and brothers, Barry and David Mottershead by one of their greatest fans, Westlife's Kian Egan.

In the past year, the Strandhill surfing trio, under the charity Strandhill Indonesian Relief Fund (SIRF), have raised over €13,000 to help rebuild a kindergarten destroyed by an earthquake in Bantul, located on the Indonesian island of Java.

However, not content with money raised to date, SIRF have now released a calendar depicting Strandhill in all its finest, which was launched by Kian at The Strand Bar last Wednesday.

It is hoped that funds raised through this initiative will amount to an additional €5,000, enough to build a second kindergarten in the region.

"The commitment for such a young guy (Allan) is unbelievable, it never ends," said Kian.

"He is one of my best friends and his involvement in the project is great."

Kian, who was joined by his girlfriend, former Hollyoaks actress, Jodi Albert on the night, added that he "would do anything" he could for the charity, which already has seen him skydive from 15,000 feet and auctioning himself off at the infamous Man Auction.

However, the Sligo star added that despite the worldwide appeal of Westlife, he still is in awe of the effect he can make by putting his name and face to the charity, as SIRF's skydiving adventure saw nationwide media coverage descend on the Irish Parachute Club in Clonbullogue, Co Offaly back in August.

"At the end of the day, I'm honoured to be involved.

"If someone puts in that much effort, you just want to help them out and I'm 100% happy to do so," he said.

Kian added that having lived in Strandhill for the past six years, he was delighted to share Sligo's best kept secret with the rest of the world.

Already, he has purchased 15 calendars for his friends in the UK and for Jodi's family.

"I've been to some of the most beautiful corners of the world and Strandhill is up there," he said.

"This is huge for Strandhill as the photographs are just amazing."

Speaking at the calendar launch, Allan expressed his appreciation to the 12 Strandhill based businesses who have each sponsored a month along with the local photographers who donated their images of the seaside resort.

He also thanked Pete Bremner and Ian Jermyn for their dedication to making the calendar happen.

"I'm proud of what we have done and very proud of the village for what they have achieved," said the 20 year-old student.

Having broke even on production costs with money contributed through advertising, Allan added that all money raised through the venture would be "pure profit".

Already 200 calendars have been sold and it is hoped that with a further 300 clinched, €5,000 will be raised for earthquake effected Indonesia.

With these funds, the construction of a second kindergarten will begin in January, as SIRF continues to work with Manusia untuk Masyarakat (MUM) Bali Foundation who are permanently based in Indonesia.

SIRF'S Barry Mottershead also travelled out to the region on St Stephen's Day, to give an indication of what is needed.

Already the charity's first school, Strandhill/ Siwi Lestari Kindergarten is nearing completion, providing a welcome change to the old makeshift classrooms, which reached 50 degree heat by the 10am.

SIRF have also provided children with school shirts; medical packs, containing vitamins, band-aids and pain killers and a daily supply of school lunches.

However, while their project is making a difference, the SIRF team are aware that there are still 330 kindergartens needed to be built in Java and 4,000 schools.

Hence Allan added that this is only the beginning of SIRF.

"We hope to be much bigger next year and register as a charity. A committee of six, which includes people from Australia and South Africa is also going to be set up and we have some huge ideas," he said.

Among these plans is the possibility of a Strandhill music festival in the Summer 2007.

Despite all their perseverance and dedication, Allan is still in shock over how much the charity has grown and how the people of Strandhill have opened their hearts to it.

"How could we have every thought it was going to end up like this?," he asked.

"Now the possibilities are endless."

Calendars are available from The Dunes Bar, The Strand Bar, Outer Point Surf Shop, Strandhill Pizzeria and Celtic Seaweed
baths priced at €10. For more information on the charity log on to www.sirf.org.

Ryan Confidential Show Review

The most recognisable voice on the radio is back and holed up in a room in Dromoland Castle with the four boys from Westlife, a TV crew and a good bottle of red.

Gerry has a knack for getting people to open up to him and didn’t waste anytime, launching into the whole Bryan McFadden saga and demanding to know what really happened.

I expected the usual flannel about how he wanted to go solo and how they all still loved each other, etc, but fair play, the real story was dragged out. Seems Bryan was in a bad place in his life and saw the band and relationship with wife Kerry as having too much control over him. So, he chose to get rid of the band first and quickly realised that it was in fact his marriage that was causing the discontent.

The lads admitted they were shocked at his decision and sorry to see him go but said he was bonkers to leave Westlife. Never a truer word spoken...

After that, the boys relaxed and thankfully, the squeaky clean personas faded a little for the late night TV slot and there was a much good-natured banter, references to drinking and even the odd swear word. The band, who have racked up more No.1 singles in the UK than any other group, were happy to disagree with Gerry when he said they were the only act Louis Walsh didn’t control fully.

They did admit that they would like to sing more original songs sometimes, but hey, they know which side the bread is buttered and nobody does cover versions better.

The chat turned to relationships, with Mark recalling how he decided to come out because he didn’t want to hide away his relationship. Nicky admitted that being married to the prime minister's daughter ensured he faced more public scrutiny than the other, but insisted he was happy to keep his nose clean-as much to keep his Ma happy as the in-laws. Shane ruefully admitted that Gillian was the boss and Kian assured us that he would make an honest woman of Jodi Albert someday.

The lads said they could never see themselves splitting up for good. Gerry challenged them as to whether they would quit the band if their respective other halves demanded it. Most agreed that their partners come first.

A sure sign that Westlife are growing up was when they discussed the idea of a second tour bus-one for the families and one for the rock 'n' rollers. Nicky joked that it would be sponsored by Pampers and have the Fianna Fail logo on the side. The aghast faces of Mark and Kian said it all. It was kids that made Westlife and it will be kids that break them.

TV Ireland: Chat Ryan Confidential RTE1, 10.15PM

OUR favourite broadcaster with the velvet voice is back on the box tonight. And Gerry Ryan is getting up close and personal with the members of Westlife.

The lovely Mark Feehily reveals he would consider marriage to his boyfriend Kevin McDaid while Nicky Byrne tells all about his hopes and fears for the future as he becomes a dad for the first time in June.

By any standards, Westlife have outlived the usual life span of a boy band – for eight long years the lads have had record sales and bank balances in the millions.

Gerry interviews all four of the boys and finds out if they are here to stay.

Shane: Bri Stupid To Leave Westlife - 25 January 2007

WESTLIFE'S Shane Filan has said he thinks Brian McFadden was stupid to leave the band, it was revealed yesterday.

The 26-year-old told Gerry Ryan his old pal Brian was crazy to end his boy band career almost three years ago.

Speaking on the new series of Ryan Confidential, which begins tonight on RTE1 at 10.15pm, Shane said: "I think Brian was off his rocker to leave the band.

"If anyone left Westlife now, I'd think they'd be absolutely stupid."

In the programme, which was recorded before Christmas, Gerry gets up close and personal with Shane and his bandmates Mark Feehily, Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne.

And Nicky insisted that he was no goody two shoes, just because Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is his wife Georgina's father.

Nicky added: "I'm not whiter than white just because I'm married to the

Taoiseach's daughter."

Nicky is soon to be a dad to twins as Georgina is due to give birth in June. Shane has an 18-monthold daughter Nicole with his wife Gillian.

But although Kian is rumoured to be tying the knot with girlfriend Jodi Albert, he told Gerry he had no intention of having children yet.

Kian said: "The lads are having babies, and fair play to them. It's no disrespect to them to say it's not for me."

During the show Mark also revealed he hasn't ruled out a gay marriage.

Mark said: "If I get to a certain point in my relationship with my boyfriend Kevin, I would want to marry to him."

I Will Marry My Gay Lover - 21 January 2007

EXCLUSIVE WESTLIFE MARK: SINGER'S COMMITMENT TO TWO-YEAR PARTNER KEVIN

WESTLIFE star Mark Feehily has sensationally announced: I want a gay wedding.

The openly gay heart-throb vows he WILL wed long-time lover Kevin McDaid as soon as the time is right.

Mark, 26, made the shocking announcement on a new episode of Ryan Confidential, to be aired on Thursday.

For the first time the boyband hunk admitted he will marry boyfriend of two years Kevin, 22.

He said: "If, and when, I get to a certain point in my relationship with my boyfriend Kevin, I certainly would want to get married to him. Absolutely."

The Sligo millionaire has repeatedly rubbished claims he is to wed.

Just two months ago in a November interview he insisted he is NOT getting married.

He said: "It has been in the Press that I am getting married, which is just not true. And it will get to the stage where when it does happen for real no-one will believe me.

"But believe me, when it happens I will tell everyone and make a big deal out of it."

And last April - just eight months ago - he claimed he had NO plans to marry. Insiders hinted he was on the verge of slipping away to tie the knot with Kevin.

But Mark said: "There are no wedding plans. There never was any wedding plans, it was totally picked out of the sky.

"I might go to Canada for a holiday, who knows, but not to get married. I may get married one day, but there are no notions or plans now."

Now, for the first time, Mark confirmed wedded bliss IS on the horizon. The hunky singer opened his heart during a special episode of RTE's Ryan Confidential to share his dreams of marriage.

The 26-year-old pop star met partner Kevin, from now-defunct boyband V, two years ago.

They first met backstage at a Childline concert in Dublin's Point theatre, and have been together ever since.

Mark admits Kevin is his first boyfriend.

He said: "Kevin was my first relationship and the whole thing was a learning experience. We didn't know what to expect, and how the public would view the whole thing. But to be honest, it's been amazing. We're just a normal couple who enjoy spending time together. Because I'm on tour so much we really have to make the most of our time off together."

The Westlife star came out last year in a blaze of publicity.

But caring Mark said hiding his true sexuality from his fans - for SIX YEARS - was more of a strain than going public.

He said: "The really scary thing was trying to keep it all a secret, that's what I found really tough. I was worried that something would leak out before I had a chance to say it myself. I wasn't at all worried when it came to the point that I actually announced I was gay, because that was nothing compared to the pressure of keeping it all a secret. When it finally all came out and hit the headlines it was a huge weight off my shoulders because I didn't have to live a lie in that respect."

They've Hit The Bar - 21 January 2007

SOCCER-CRAZY stars no longer have to miss the footie while touring the States, and it's all thanks to Irish entrepreneur Thomas McCarthy.

The quick-thinking Corkman realised celebs need a place to catch up on their soccer scores when they're away from home.

So he founded New York pub Nevada Smiths, the only bar devoted to football.

A-listers from Penelope Cruz to our own Westlife have propped up the bar while checking out their team's performance.

And the occasional megastar can still get carried away with a bad dose of football withdrawl symptoms.

Thomas explains: "Rod Stewart came in to watch Scotland play.

"When Scotland scored he ran in behind the bar, high-fived everyone and bought everyone drinks. I heard he normally leaves early.. about five minutes before the end of the match. But he stayed an hour afterwards signing autographs."

And he's not the only big star to visit the bar.

Thomas said: "Noel Gallagher from Oasis came in to watch a Man City game, he's a very nice fellow.

"Penelope Cruz came in recently for the Chelsea Barcelona game, she's very pleasant. Westlife come in often. I actually became very good friends with Brian McFadden when he was with the band, he even invited me to his wedding in Slane. He was in every weekend with Delta this summer. Delta is lovely, she's an absolute sweetheart."

"Darren Anderton was the worst, he came into the bar with pictures of himself in an England kit and was giving them out to the girls. Soccer's not huge over here so the girls didn't get it at all, they were just dropping them on the floor."

But Thomas still hasn't landed his dream customer - yet.

He said: "I'd love Roy Keane to come in. I've had his mother, his father, his sister and his brother. Please God he'll read the Irish Sunday Mirror and pop in for a pint."

The Love Album Review - 17 January 2007

***

Henrie Geyser

Like snazzy cars with six-speed gearboxes, Crocs and pink shirts, four-boy bands are the current fashionable flavour and, as groups, go Westlife is one of the more talented and entertaining foursomes around at the moment.

This album, rather cleverly, contains 11 songs which have been around for a while; good, easily recognizable songs of the type likely to appeal to music fans who drink beer out of glasses, not straight out of the bottle, and who wear their caps the right way around.

The four lads — Kian, Mark, Nicky and Shane — look like good, clean-cut, decent sort of chaps that you wouldn’t mind your daughter bringing home. But they look (and often sound) a little young and immature, so by clever song selection they are aiming at a more senior (read big spender) market.

And they succeed remarkably well, because it’s difficult to fault songs like 'You Light Up My Life', 'You Are So Beautiful', ' Love Can Build a Bridge', 'You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling' and an old personal, very special favourite, 'The Rose'.

Even if their voices are nothing spectacular they do what they do in a gentle, easy-flowing style with good back-up, particularly by skillful piano work.

Overall a very pleasant album that fully deserves whatever success comes its way. These lads are onto something good.

Hiya everyone! On the Brit Awards website says that the nominations for the Brit Awards 2007 will be announced today and has the following picture of acts including Westlife, so make sure you will watch in case Westlife are nominated or they show a video of them.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Also, I found this part about Westlife on the Brit Awards 2006 report and thought I’d post it here:

Old hands at this kind of thing, Westlife are next to brave the red carpet, looking like the pros they are. Kian even has time to tell Craig David how much he likes his jacket. Craig is suitably chuffed, and says that he likes Kian’s as well. Isn’t that nice.

Nicky Westlife is more concerned with finding a loo, but alas he has to wait until he’s finished all his interviews before he can go and have a little tinkle.

McFly To Apologise To Westlife - 12 January 2007

POP band McFly have been ordered to apologise to Westlife when they meet at the Childline Concert.

They ignited a feud with the Irish group last month by attacking them for releasing an album of cover versions.

Singer Danny Jones said: "We would never do what Westlife did.

"We want to be a real band like Oasis," But now the groups will come face to face at the Point in Dublin on January 28 in one of the biggest concerts of the year.

A show source revealed McFly's management have ordered them to say sorry to Westlife.

The insider added: "At the end of the day Westlife are one of the most successful pop bands of all time and they deserve some respect."

Westlife's Kian Egan said: "We respect everyone else in the music business.

"You can't survive long in this game by getting into silly arguments with people."

Voices - Captivating millions - 11 January 2007

This was written by a student and there is not anything new in it but it was published today.

Pop music has been a very important part of music for years, earning the largest number of fans in the history of music. Many bands have continued to liven up the meaning of Pop - a number one favourite among so many teenagers, and music maniacs. People have devoted long hours to pop music, reveling themselves in so many soulful numbers. Popular names common in the mouths of teenagers are Blue, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, Girl groups like Vengaboys, Spice Girls, Abba, Mutiny etc. Westlife still continues to be one of the most famous Irish bands… outshining several others like S Club 7, Busted, Five, and many others with their soulful voices.

The band started off as a six member group called IOU. Later on, three members dropped out, and two new ones joined - and the band was born in the year 1998. It started off with the name Westside, but, since it was a very common name among many other bands, they changed the name to Westlife.

In the many years that have followed, the albums of this band have made great hits. Westlife has consistently released a single and album by the fall of any given year, almost always in October. The five heartthrobs are Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, Nicholas Byrne (popular as Nicky), Bryan McFadden, and Kian Egan. Westlife has enjoyed unprecedented success in the Irish singles chart. They have an enormous number of fans distributed all over the world. Fans can hardly recall the unpopular group that started their career in the very beginning. Over the years, they have released albums that have become a part of our hearts, and captivated millions with their passionate, soulful voices. Their title debut was ‘Westlife’ an immediate hit, followed by ‘Coast to Coast’, ‘World Of Our Own’, ‘Unbreakable: Greatest hits Volume 1’, ‘Allow Us To Be Frank’, and one of their most popular (also my favourite!): ‘Turnaround’. The hits that won them the ITV record of the year are:
1999 - “Flying Without Wings”
2000 - “My Love”
2003 - “Mandy”
2005 - “You Raise Me Up”

Westlife holds the record of the most successful debut in the British Singles Chart: Their first 7 singles entered #1: Swear It Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings, I Have A Dream, Seasons In The Sun, Fool Again, Against All Odds, and My Love. Westlife’s debut single and music video “Swear It Again” was released in the US in summer 2000 and was a minor hit on mainstream radio and MTV, reaching number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and being shown briefly on MTV’s Total Request Live. Kian is a multi-instrumentalist who has a distinctive rock voice. Shane is the group’s lead singer, using a commercial pop style, and does some songwriting. Nicky is known for his husky voice, Mark has a soulful voice, and Bryan supplies a somewhat plaintive voice.

Westlife is currently formed of 4 members: Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily, and Kian Egan. The fifth member, Brian McFadden, has left the band in 2004, in order to be with his wife. However, he later on separated with her, and changed his name from Bryan to the original Brian.
For years, Westlife has continued to rock the world with hits like Heal, Turnaround, Uptown Girl, You Raise, Home, Obvious… and it’s obvious that they’re going to rock on for a long time to come.

Hopefully, they will continue to be our heartthrobs for a long time to come, for the unique sense of comfort and consolation their music gives us can be found in few musical groups, and Westlife continues to be one of a kind. Even though Bryan has forsaken the group, the band does not seem to have changed much, if you don’t count the number of people in the group, the band still continues to liven up our spirits, and live to their aim.

Nicky Byrne About To Become A Double Daddy! - 10 January 2007

There was a double dose of joy for Westlife singer Nicky Byrne last week. Not only is his gorgeous wife Georgina pregnant, but it’s now been revealed that she is expecting twins. “We are both completely overjoyed with the news,” Nicky beamed. The babies are due later in the summer.

Westlife warbler Nicky Byrne and wife Georgina are going to have their hands full come the summer when they’ll be welcoming not one but two babies into the world.

Georgina, the daughter of Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern and sister of novelist Cecilia, is expecting twins and the couple are delighted at the prospect of impending parenthood.

“I know the time is right for this and it’s something Georgina and I had been talking about for some time,” said Nicky, who wed his childhood sweetheart in France in August 2003.

“I’ve seen what joy it brought Brian McFadden when he was in the group and more recently Shane Filan with his daughter Nicole. I want to experience that too and I know Georgina will make a great mum. We are both overjoyed and can’t wait until the summer.”

Peter Curistan: Life After The House Of Commons Allegations - 10 January 2007

Interview shortened

Your company also brought the Odyssey, Northern Ireland's landmark Millennium project to Belfast. Is that the jewel in your development portfolio?

It is certainly our highest profile development. When I came up with the idea 12 years ago, people said that I was mad. Now, a number of people who are claiming credit for the creation of Odyssey are the same people who tried to pour cold water on it. I risked about £1m to win the competition to build the complex run by the Millennium Commission, and put some £35m into the project. The public sector, including the Lottery, put up some £70m. I then convinced SMG of Philadelphia to come over to run the arena. They would only come in as a joint venture with me and this has proved to be a huge success. Through running Odyssey I have met a lot of the acts which have performed there and I am particularly friendly with Westlife. My wife and I went to Shane Filan's wedding and I am director of a company with Brian McFadden, who left the group in 2004. I have also got to know singer Ronan Keating.

It's A New Stage For Jake After Job Switch - 5 January 2007

Article shortened

JOHN GIBSON

IS there anybody in the music business Jake Duncan hasn't worked for as tour manager or accountant? A valid question because the list does seem endless. Let's start with the Bay City Rollers...

And we can take it from there to George Michael, Oasis (Noel Gallagher knows what's going on, brother Liam's a handful), Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne, Barbara Dickson, Joe Cocker, Jethro Tull, Westlife, Stevie Winwood, Michael Flatley, Franz Ferdinand and Jimmy Nail (remember him?).

Jake had two and half years taking care of business with Westlife. They played Edinburgh's Festival Theatre in November 2003 and returned to the Capital the following July at the Castle.

"I'd seen Tom Jones and Elton perform on the Esplanade and I thought then that it would prove a marvellous gig for Westlife. They were to become the most successful boy band of all time.

"You won't be surprised, I'd wanted to bring the band to Tynecastle, rather than the Esplanade. I'd have been chuffed to bits. Logistically, though, the Hearts stadium just wouldn't have worked. The boys used a massive amount of equipment and getting it all into the stadium, allied to huge manpower costs, ruled that out."

Westlife Back In Business - 4 January 2007

By JASON CHEAH

Irish boy band Westlife is on the brink of yet another record-breaking stint with the release of its latest album.

November 2006 marked something of a milestone for Irish quartet Westlife when it released its latest single in Britain, a cover version of The Rose, once made famous in 1980 by US singer Bette Midler.

When the single duly reached the top of the British singles chart, it matched the tally of 14 No.1s that British legendary pop star Cliff Richard achieved in his career, with only The Beatles (17) and Elvis Presley (21) still ahead of the band in the stakes.

But while Cliff took nearly 40 years to reach that milestone, Westlife has done it in a mere span of eight years.

“It is mind-boggling when you think that eight years ago we were just four young lads, and now we’ve sold 30 million records, and equalled Cliff’s record,” said 28-year-old Nicky Byrne, during a brief phone interview from Australia where the band was on a short promotional visit in November.

Mark Feehily, 27, Shane Filan, 27, and Kian Egan, 26, make up the Irish foursome. Former member and co-founder, Bryan McFadden left the group in 2004 for a solo career.

When The Love Album was released a few weeks later, that also reached the top of the album charts in Britain. But with this latest release, the boys have decided to take a 100% cover version route, recording a collection of 11 of the most classic and memorable love songs of all time, chosen by the band members themselves.

Long-term collaborator Steve Mack produced the album, which was recorded in London, Dublin and Sweden during breaks on 2006’s Face To Face tour and, amongst its many highlights, features a duet with Delta Goodrem on All Out of Love.

“We actually wanted to record an original but there was not enough material,” Byrne explained, continuing, “we didn’t want to record seven decent songs and five half-decent ones.

“The songwriters had not come out with enough good songs so we’ve got more work to do.”

The final choice for the first single release was actually a toss up between The Rose and Light up My Life, the Debbie Boone classic.

“It could have easily been that but (our manager) wanted The Rose,” Byrne said.

The rest of the album includes songs such as Total Eclipse of the Heart, Light up My Life, Easy, You are So Beautiful (To Me), Have You Ever Been in Love, Love Can Build a Bridge, The Dance, All or Nothing and You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling.

The Love Album may be Westlife’s eighth release in eight years but that won’t exactly stop the band for a while yet.

In addition to coming up with their next original studio album, the boys aim to come back, stronger and better.

“Next year and after, a collection of greatest hits or No.1s may be in the works,” Byrne said. In the meantime, there’s a new tour to think about, which is scheduled to begin in late February in Perth, Australia, and set to include Australia, South Africa, Britain and Ireland, to begin with.

We wonder if Malaysia might be pencilled in somewhere along the way.

Westlife To Hit Vegas? - 3 January 2007

There really does seem to be no stopping the ballad spewing juggernaut that is Westlife. The boys have just celebrated one of their biggest releases to date with The Love Album and now plan to cash in with a massive UK tour.

Shane Filan let slip to me that they'll have a second greatest hits album to coincide with the live shows - just four short years after the first one. "We've had so many hits that we thought 'why not?' The fans want it and so do we," he revealed.

The two lads also pointed out that in two years, it'll be a decade since Louis Walsh launched them on to an unsuspecting nation. "We're planning on being together forever" said Shane. "But our 10th anniversary will be something special."

The boys are also looking at an option to star in their own Vegas-style show on the famous Strip. "It's something that has been offered before, but now with the right team it's looking more of a reality," Shane confided. If it's good enough for Celine Dion...

The Ray Pack in Las Vegas - 2 January 2007

Article shortened

RAY QUINN may turn from boy to man in Las Vegas if X Factor boss SIMON COWELL gets his way.

Simon wants the Scouse youngster to do everything Rat Pack-style when he records his debut album in Los Angeles — and that means living, as well as singing, like the legends.

The only problem for crooner Ray is his heroes FRANK SINATRA and DEAN MARTIN were such big drinkers, gamblers and womanisers they make the likes of comic RUSSELL BRAND and rocker NOEL GALLAGHER look like wimps.

I’ve mocked up how Ray might have looked out on the town with Frank and fellow Rat-Packer SAMMY DAVIS JR.

Simon and LOUIS WALSH sent WESTLIFE on a similar trip before the release of their swing album Allow Us To Be Frank in 2004.

On their return to the UK, an exhausted SHANE FILAN told me: “We had to live the lifestyle to prepare for the album, which meant we went out drinking a lot and gambling a lot. We did everything except sleep!”

Shortened and only includes the part about Westlife

When the big stars are in town, there's only one picture they want to have taken...

WESTLIFE are always real gents when the Razz meets them. The boys cropped up during the year at radio events and gigs. The Razz met them at Clyde 1, during a promotional tour for their Love album, when they told us they'd love to collaborate with Take that or 5ive.
