SHANE is THRILLED that Take That have exploded back on the scene because he reckons it has inspired a love for pop music again.
He doesn’t see GARY BARLOW and co as a threat to their own boyband ? or should that be manband - crown.
Shane explained: “Slowly but surely pop music is coming back into the charts again thanks to Take That.
“Since their massive comeback I think it’s had a knock-on effect, helping to make pop music to make popular again. I hope it’s going to inspire record company bosses to sign more pop acts.
“Seven or eight years ago you couldn’t move for pop acts, then guitars came in and pop became a dirty word.
“Now you’ve got the SPICE GIRLS back, BOYZONE are reforming and with LEONA LEWIS’ incredible single sales it feels like things could be changing.”
The singing star believes X Factor champ Leona who has Britain’s No.1 single with Bleeding Love, and SHAYNE WARD who won the telly wannabe show the year before, are proper pop stars who can have long careers.
But he doesn’t think the current batch of X Factor contenders are up to it.
He said: “I don’t think the talent in the show is good this year. There are three or four good acts but not one outstanding one. I don’t think it’s the 12 best acts in the UK.
“Leona Lewis is a star and Shayne Ward is a star. But this year? I really don’t see it.”
Shane married childhood sweetheart Gillian in 2003. They have a two-year-old daughter, Nicole.
