What was the best thing that happened to you in 2006?

‘I’d have to say Nicole’s first birthday. It was lovely to celebrate it with the family and give her a little party. I can’t believe she’s already a year old, though. The last twelve months seem to have flown by! Apart from that, releasing The Love Album was a real highlight for me. It was just such a pleasure to sing the songs on there.’

What are you most looking forward to in 2007?

‘I’m really excited about touring the UK again with these new songs. I think we’ve got a great show this time round and hopefully the fans will really enjoy it. Things are going so well for us at the moment, we couldn’t ask for anything more. I’m already looking forward to the next album too.’

What’s your biggest luxury?

‘It has to be sleep! I love it, it’s my favourite pastime. I always loved my bed but since we’ve had Nicole, sleep’s more precious than ever so I can’t get enough.’

What’s your greatest fear?

‘I absolutely hate rats. I hate the look of them, I don’t even like saying the word. Something about them just makes my skin crawl.’

What’s your favourite album or song right now?

‘I love the last Razorlight single, America. I’ve been playing it all the time recently. They’re really cool.’

What’s your current favourite food?

‘I have to say Gillian’s cooking or I’ll get in trouble! No, seriously, it really is that. I look forward to it when I’m away from home.’

What’s the last thing you bought?

‘It was probably sunscreen for Nicole when I was in Australia. We had a couple of days off before the shows started over there and it was so hot, we had to be careful she didn’t burn.’

What’s the one thing you never travel without?

‘A DVD of Friends. If I’ve had a bad day or anything, I can stick it on and it cheers me up straightaway. There’s just something really comforting about it, wherever I am in the world.’

Where’s your favourite place to go on holiday?

‘Anywhere hot because I love the sun. At the moment, I really like Dubai. It’s got great hotels, nice beaches and really good shopping, which always helps!’

If you were invisible for a day, what would you do?

‘No point wishing, it will never happen. I’m realist!’

Who’s your hero?

‘My father. He’s very relaxed and happy all the time and he never worries about anything or lets anything get him down. That’s a great way to live.’

What one question would you like to answer to?

‘Who really killed JFK?’

What’s your biggest wish right now?

‘A G5 private jet. Can’t see it happening any time soon though.’

If you weren’t in Westlife, what would you do?

‘That’s a really difficult one. I’ve been doing this so long, I’ve never thought about anything else. I genuinely haven’t a clue.’

What would be the perfect present someone could buy you?

‘Nike golf balls. I’m a massive golf fan. I’ll definitely be trying to sneak away and play a bit when I’m on tour if we have time.’

How would you describe yourself?

‘Generous, thoughtful and a great father.’

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

‘I love fish fingers, beans and mashed potatoes. Beautiful food.’
